Hi all,
Last night we fought the second play test of this opening scenario in the Battle of Talavera.

This time the French launched a full blooded assault on Mackenzie's brigade around the Casa and the casualties reflected the nature of the battle.

lovely to see so much action in a relatively small space in the larger scale. Nicely presented game.

CG2 gives a nice game. Beautiful table and figs.

Cheers guys, you hope that a picture will be worth a thousand words, as they say. The last attack by the French was quite desperate, as was the British resistance.

I totally agree about C&G games. It's great to be able to focus on managing the assets rather than working the rules.

Thanks for your comments

@Carojon,

After two play test it appears to be very one sided and widely ahistorical.
Do have plans to make further adjustments for the #3 trial?
Curious to see what they are.
I have some ideas if you are interested.

Hi MG
Yes I have several ideas, that we will play test this week.
The action was very one sided, and over in two hours, in that the British were surprised and unprepared for an attack, hence two battalions broke in the first contact.

This should be a test of the British commander salvaging a bad first contact, but it is the French who are doing that at the moment.
In our replays the British are too strong and the French to weakened in the moves to contact.

I am planning to change the terrain effects to cause less fatigue, particularly on the French, who are having to move through woods. In addition I am going to adjust the random British response on first contact, reducing further their first two volleys, to better represent the surprise factor. With first volleys of 50 and in one case 70% firing, the British are way to effective, so I need to see more 25-30% first fires.

Please feel free to comment. That's why I post these play tests for as much as anything, with the emphasis very much on test.
Cheers
JJ

@ carojon,

Try having the British have to move to a position from different positions/camp sights around the town so that they must decide where to make a hold at and move there. That will automatically make there fire reduced due to the movement, and the prepared position they are currently in goes away.

looking forward to the play test

MG
