Some of you may remember that back in the September 2009 issue of National Geographic, the cover featured a comparison of what New York City looks like now versus what the terrain was originally.

The Mannahatta Project was the original effort to create online, digital maps based initially on a British AWI map.

That effort has now branched out into neighboring areas, and can be found at welikia.org
