Tom Loback has been a close friend and gaming buddy for over 40 years. He is in the late stages of cancer. His wife and family are trying to make his last days comfortable.

Some of you may have known his Dragontooth fantasy range back in the 70's and 80's. In the 80's and 90's he produced Thomas' Tin Soldiers, a line of 54mm ACW figures. Most popular was his 54th Mass set that came out at the same time as the film Glory.
He also was a partner in the board game company Aulic Council. His particular game design was Mohawk, a game of the French and Indian War. Other games by the company were Jack the Ripper and Hannibal.

The Corlears Hook Fencibles are standing down this week. I'm off to the hospital soon.

I'm extremely sorry to read this. His Saurians were the first wargaming miniatures I ever painted. Although I never met him, in a very real way, he got me started in this hobby. I hope there's peace for him and his family at the end.

When I saw the news on Facebook yesterday, I was shocked.

Tom was always a worthy opponent and an inspired artist. I remember our Saturday afternoon games in the mid 70's at the Compleat Strategist.

He and Sue are in my thoughts.

I loved the Dragiontooth lizardmen line.

Tell him I played the heck out of Mohawk. Hannibal, too.

I got to know him during his Dragontooth days. I have lots of his figures. I heard about this yesterday. I hope his days pass without pain.

I'm also sorry to hear that. I have quite a few of his miniatures, including several of his dragons and giants (Hrungnir is still my favorite giant of all time).

Assure Tom that his miniatures have brought a tremendous amount of joy to a great many people.

I met Tom in the early 80's, before the plastic toy soldier market was beginning to explode. I used to buy old Marx plastic soldiers from him that he obtained through his various sources. He sold them for pennies then, but around the late eighties he realized that there was gold in those old toys.

He seemed to have a pretty good business going selling old plastic on Ebay. I will remember him in my prayers and hope that he passes without pain.

So Sorry, I really like Tom although I have not spoke to him or seen him in years. Introduced to him through Glenn Kidd -- He will be in my prayers.

I heard the new via Susan on Tom's Facebook page. Completely shocked. I've only known him as such through his artistry snd, more recently, through Facebook. The world will be a darker place without his light.

I fondly remember visiting the Dragontooth booth at Gen Cons back in the day, and in particular the display of Saurians. It will always remain among the touchstone memories of the hobby for me.

I'm saddened to hear of his condition.
