It was so bad I could only stomach about five minutes of it.
Just terrible.
Looked like a 1984 video game.
Lousy acting, worse dialogue, etc.

Sergeant Paper01 Mar 2015 10:43 p.m. PST

Really? Worse than 'The Keep'? Worse than 'SS Doomtrooper'?

Korvessa01 Mar 2015 10:46 p.m. PST

I haven't seen those – but it was bad.
Made "battle of the Bulge" look like a masterpiece.

darthfozzywig01 Mar 2015 11:07 p.m. PST

Don't you bad mouth "The Keep!" That movie was awesome.

Or at least I thought it was when I saw it c1987.

Mako1101 Mar 2015 11:37 p.m. PST

Can't be worse than SS Doomtrooper – that set the bar for low.

Martin Rapier02 Mar 2015 12:07 a.m. PST

Yes, The Keep was a great film.

No WW2 film is worse than Breakout, the (extremely) disappointing follow up to Cross of Iron.

hocklermp502 Mar 2015 12:25 a.m. PST

Korvessa….I lasted all of five minutes too. At one point I thought it was some sort of animated comic book but "1984 videogame" is an apt description.

dwight shrute02 Mar 2015 3:35 a.m. PST

The Cross of Iron sequel with Richard burton has to be the worst …

Rabbit 302 Mar 2015 4:05 a.m. PST

`The Keep` wasn`t really a WWII film anyway.
Rather a horror film that happened to take place during WWII.

Only Warlock02 Mar 2015 4:20 a.m. PST

WooHoo! THE KEEP! My first date with the Future Mrs Wikan!

30 years later she still makes fun of it and I still like it!

Martin Rapier02 Mar 2015 4:24 a.m. PST

The Keep is a Michael Mann film with a soundtrack by Tangerine Dream, what is not to like?

It even has Jurgen Prochnow in it!

@Korvessa: Thanks for the warning. I was thinking about taking a chance on it, but I was afraid it was going to be a stinker.

Winston Smith02 Mar 2015 5:53 a.m. PST

They got the facings on the 3rd Fallschirmjaeger Hussars in claret instead of scarlet. After that I couldn't watch it.

Wackmole902 Mar 2015 6:16 a.m. PST

how about those Awful Dirty Dozens redo movies

Dn Jackson Supporting Member of TMP02 Mar 2015 6:30 a.m. PST

Worse than Thin Red Line? Is that possible?

dBerczerk02 Mar 2015 6:35 a.m. PST

"Force Ten from Naverone" gets my vote.

I vote for "Castle Keep",w/ my favorite Burt Lancaster.

Dynaman878902 Mar 2015 7:56 a.m. PST

Don't go making fun of SS Doomtrooper! Of all the cheaper creepers on Syfy that one was actually almost not bad. Sure they used a T34 as a US tank BUT at least it had a tank in it, quite an accomplishment with the budget they had.

Jakar Nilson02 Mar 2015 9:04 a.m. PST

Another Asylum mockbuster, I see. Set during the summer focusing on an unsegregated US infantry unit, and they save a bunch of French/Belgians from the evil SS. All based on watching a 1:30 min trailer.

Phil DAmato02 Mar 2015 9:54 a.m. PST

I can't believe it. No one mentioned Pearl Harbor.

"Thin Red Line" gets my vote

Knight of St John02 Mar 2015 10:55 a.m. PST

If any of you have not seen Brothers War , don't bother. It's bad. Real bad.

Some Chicken02 Mar 2015 10:56 a.m. PST

As I have said before when this sort of thread comes up, none of the usual subjects come close to "Ships With Wings" for sheer awfulness.

I've never understood the acclaim for Tarantino's remake of "Inglorious Basterds". That movie was downright awful in so many ways. There are few films that would make me deliberately choose "Pearl Harbor" over them, but this is on that list.

Just watched the trailer. Some pretty intense winter combat scenes….shot in the dead of summer. It's bad even by network tv standards.

Dynaman878902 Mar 2015 6:26 p.m. PST

Ships with Wings looks pretty dreadful, if the 1941 movie filmed on Ark Royal is the one in question (on youtube). I think "The Starfighters" might actually be worse though. If you feel the need to watch to make sure find the MST3K version.

Zephyr102 Mar 2015 8:47 p.m. PST

"I can't believe it. No one mentioned Pearl Harbor."

Yes, it was so bad that even the Japanese objected to being included in it.

hocklermp503 Mar 2015 8:03 a.m. PST

"Pearl Harbor". Fighter pilots that shift to medium bombers for the "Doolittle Raid" no less. Cuba Gooding Jr. strapped onto a water cooled .50 cal going full auto at the Japanese plane flying between his ship and the one next to it, never mind he's raking the other ship. And on. And on. My dear somewhat ditsy wife bought the endless horror and I suffered through it being polite.

"The Thin Red Line" by Michael Mann had some nice visuals, the soldiers in the giant bamboo is one of them, but what relationship this abortion had to James Jones' novel other than the title eludes me. Turned me off Michael Mann for life.

OSchmidt03 Mar 2015 11:19 a.m. PST

Not WWII sorry, but "Fraulein Doktor" for WWI.

For WWII sort of the worst of the worst was "They saved Hitler's Brain." Which is actually TWO movies spliced together. One a 1950's Horror schlock, the second was a 1970's "coccon" that some college film class wrapped around it.

Gawd, it must be dire!

The Thin Red Line" by Michael Mann

TTRL was written and directed by Terrence Malick. It is pretty typical of his style, which is perhaps not ideally suited to war movies.

Korvessa03 Mar 2015 8:57 p.m. PST

Tim
The Germans also had T34 – still in Russian markings

hocklermp505 Mar 2015 12:05 a.m. PST

Sorry about dissing Michael Mann. It was indeed Terrence Malick.

Stepman305 Mar 2015 5:04 p.m. PST

Ilsa of the SS…

14Bore05 Mar 2015 5:44 p.m. PST

It couldn't be as bad as The Battle of the Bulge, Love Castle Keep by the way.

I was never able to finish Pearl Harbor so I can't tell if it's the worst.
In defense of SS Doomtrooper it was never intended to be a serious movie.

Jo Jo the Idiot Circus Boy17 Mar 2015 9:02 a.m. PST

What about Miracle at St. Anna?

It's hands down the worst WW2 film I've ever seen. The wife dragged me to the theatre to watch that dog. Were do I start on it?

Full disclosure: I despise Spike Lee, so I'm a tad biased here….
