1.Batman

It's varied over time, but Batman, Spiderman, Captain Marvel (Shazam), Green Arrow, and The Flash (Barry Allen) have always come in high on the list. Though I never collected his comics, I also always liked Captain America; the shield is just cool.

1) Batman (wife prefers Superman)

2) Aquaman – 75% of the world is water, more potential for stories (never developed by short-sighted writers IMO.)

3) All the Robin/Batgirl sidekick types to Batman

4) Oracle (Looks, Brains, computers, and the wheelchair gives her a human weakness)

5) Susan Storm – Invisible Woman (character/power development)

Off course Tarzan except he is not usually considered a Superhero even though he outperforms more than a few on this list.

Cyrus the Great26 Feb 2015 9:20 p.m. PST

1. Thor
2. The Incredible Hulk
3. Captain America
4. Dr. Strange
5. Ant Man/ Giant Man/ Goliath (Henry Pym)

David Manley26 Feb 2015 9:54 p.m. PST

Batfink
Superted
Banana Man
Hong Kong Phooey
Mermaid Man

Hitman26 Feb 2015 11:01 p.m. PST

1. Batman hands down…just a normal, non-mutated, non super power human with deadly martial arts skills, and high intelligence.

2. Nightwing…not as good as batman but for the same reasons.

3. Superman (special powers)

4. (Green) Arrow…regular human again, no special powers but great archer and hand to hand combat skills

5. Deathstroke..just a plain ordinary bad___. Amazing hand to hand combat skills.

6. The Punisher…same as Deathstroke

7. Thor…godlike

8. Wolverine…Canadian

9. Spiderman…cool, with super powers

10. Hulk…giant, green bad___

Sorry Bill…I can't count…plus I needed to do my top 10 list anyways. ;o)

6.

Batman: Dark, brooding and totally badass with lots of cool toys;

Spiderman: A 'science nerd' and wisecracking webhead who gets all the hot chicks (Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy, Felicia Hardy);

Wolverine: Indestructible and self-healing badass with adamantium claws, 'nuff said;

Captain America: Patriotic super soldier with the boomerang shield has always been one of my faves;

The Punisher: Ex marine vigilante packing heat is the archetypal one-man-army 'Rambo' of comic-dom.

Can't say about top five. Batman is the man (or theman, if you prefer) for me. The 2nd place might have to be tied by pretty much everybody from the original Watchmen graphic novel (specifically because they mostly aren't either heroes or supers in the most obvious sense of the words). I also have a soft spot for Ironman stemming from the time when I was just a wee lad in short trousers and Avengers was one of the few superhero comics I could access.

Nobody is listing their superheroes, they're listing other people's superheroes. My top five superheroes are:

1) Above Average Guy – He does everything at the 96th percentile of performance, or put another way, almost all the time (unless his opponent rolls a 20 on a d20) he's better than anyone at anything they don't specialize in.

2) Kitsune – A shapeshifting Japanese fox spirit who was outfoxed in a riddle contest by a young child (who was to be her dinner) resulting in her being cursed into being eternally wracked with pain which can only be mitigated by performing selfless acts.

3) Disaster Sponge – He has the uncanny ability to draw bad luck to himself. When his team needs a certain hero to succeed in a certain critical task, Disaster Sponge can draw all that hero's bad luck away. Now if they can just protect Disaster Sponge!

4) The Penguin – A penguin. A penguin who just frolics and slides around the place, the absurdity and cuteness of which in a superhero combat situation tends to distract people from what they are supposed to be doing.

5) OnionMan – Emanates and somewhat controls a cloud of fine particles that can make others' eyes water (from interfering with vision all the way up to blinding), throats constrict, and any open wounds sere in pain. Has an ablative, layered skin that renders any successful hit to minimal damage. Not very good at sneaking up on people.

Hey Bill, this looks a lot like my top three favorite comic book character TMP Poll Suggestion idea.

Coelacanth27 Feb 2015 5:42 a.m. PST

1. Batman – Overexposed, but still my long-term favorite. Superman was the first Superhero, but Batman is the last Pulp hero.

2. Spider-Man – Super-powered but relatable. Is there any nerdy guy who hasn't daydreamed about being Spidey?

3. Wonder Woman – Tough yet compassionate, ageless and beautiful, wears a silly outfit. What's not to love?

4. Daredevil – The Man Without Fear! Marvel's best "street level" superhero.

5. Batgirl – A spin-off of Batman, sure. But I have drawn a lot of Batgirls through the years. laugh

Ron

Carrion Crow27 Feb 2015 5:53 a.m. PST

1. Captain America – The original Steve Rogers incarnation.

2. Captain Britain – 'Cos I'm British, although he has been badly treated by writers over the years

3. The Thing – always preferred him over the Hulk.

4. Hawkeye – comic book version.

5. Elsa Bloodstone – Next Wave version

Never really was a fan of the DC Comics characters…

GhostofRebecaBlack27 Feb 2015 8:33 a.m. PST

1. Wee Hughie. Sensible and humble. Reacts to violence like most of us would. A nice guy.

2. The Punisher. I like Marvel MAX take on him as a obsessed man on the edge.

3. Saint of Killers. Plugs both Satan and God when they mess with him.

4. Dr. Manhattan. During "Watchemn" he goes through several phases in his conection to humanity and ends up curious and optimistic not only about the species but also about his own powers.

5. Guy Gardner. Egoistic, selfish and rude. Not the type you'd like to see as a cop – even less as a galactic super cop.

Difficult to choose as there is a distinct difference between what's popular in the comics versus the films.

My choices are with one exception are from stories I've enjoyed in the comics and on film.

Miracleman
Elektra Assassin
Batman
V for Vendetta
Daredevil

I expect at least three of these choices are contentious, but I would say the Directors Cut of DD and Elektra are well worth watching, and the Frank Miller stories are stunningly good, and I really enjoyed V for Vendetta by the Wachowskis.

The Angry Piper27 Feb 2015 9:41 a.m. PST

1.Spider-Man.
2.Batman
3.Luke Cage (Power Man version)
4.Daredevil
5.Wolverine

Other favorites not listed:

Favorite FF member: The Thing
Favorite X-Man: Colossus
Favorite Avenger: Iron Man
Favorite JLA member: Flash

Favorite Alpha Flight member: Bwhahahahahahaha! Oh wait. Really? People actually read this book? OK, Puck I guess. Because he looks like a hockey puck.

It changes weekly, but I always come back to:

Batman
Captain America
Green Lantern
Moon Knight
Spider-Man

(I left off the supervillains, because that's a different question.) (And this is asking about the characters, not comic books themselves, so it's taking into account the different media versions we now get.) (This is truly a golden age.) (Parentheses rock.)
