"Base's troops were trained by US as elite counterterrorism unit; 10 killed in takeover Armed men from Yemen's newly dominant Houthi group took over a special forces army base in the capital city of Sanaa early Wednesday, soldiers there said. The troops at the base had been trained and equipped by the United States as an elite counterterrorism unit during the rule of former President Ali Abullah Saleh, who was ousted by Arab Spring protests in 2011, military sources told Reuters. The clashes, which lasted around six hours, started late Tuesday when Houthis shelled the camp with heavy weapons, soldiers from the camp said. US elite soldiers train forces [as well as other Western elites, like from the UK, France, etc.] all over the world. But like the Iraqis, Afghanis and yes the Yemenis, to mention a few … It does not guarantee once left on their own those, local troops will are worth a damn or fight … We saw similar with the ARVN in many cases … |

Didn't say they didn't fight, I only said there is no guarantee once they were left on their own, etc. … but they still lost the base … |

Fortunately, Yemen is a success story, or so I'm told, otherwise, I'd be a bit more worried that some country in the Middle East has designs on seizing control over the flow of oil from the Persian Gulf, and putting nuke warheads on their ballistic missiles. Thankfully, that's just crazy talk. |
