A one foot square village project using the new Valiant Miniatures plastic building and a cut down Sentry Models church (with odd bits of Italeri walling). Most of our Rapid Fire games start out with intact buildings which are reduced to ruins during the course of a battle. This is an attempt at modelling something which will be 'fit for purpose'.
Stage1 – the assembly… will add painting next…

Looks like the making of a nice project – I am a little confused by all the structures built in close proximity to each other being at odd angles to each other

As Colin said, it represents a village. European villages did not develop in a nice tidy grid pattern. Houses and barns and churches etc. were built at odd angles to each other and the roads twisted and turned in between them, resulting in interesting layouts that this model attempts to mimic. This is a pretty standard thing for his Rapid Fire villages.

And now with a base coat (Humbrol 98 for the plastic and a chocolate brown emulsion for the church and base).

and a heavy dry brush of Humbrol 62 on the plastic and tan emulsion on the church/base.

So, I am understanding correct that the buildings are manufactured with the cut down.
I Like the concept either way and if you did cut them yourself, you did an acceptional job.

The church and one of the plastic buildings are 'cut down' by me… the rest are assembled straight from the box.

that's cool

Next stage. Plastic houses dry brushed with Vallejo Iraqi Sand and then lightened Iraqi Sand (basically mix in a bit of white) Church, walls and base dry brushed with a sand coloured matt emuulsion and then sand/magnolia mix and then lightly dry bushed with magnolia. Tiling base coated with Humbrol 67 (Panzer grey). Odd tiles piced out with lightened 67 and others with darkened 67.

The final bit. Drybrushed roofs (Humbrol 145), washes applied to windows, doors, shopfront and signs (Vallego burnt umber and refractive green), shutter highlights picked out in Vallejo white and chimneys painted orange. A burnt sienna oil wash applied here and there to the base. Pics below of the intact buildings and 'clean' ruin base without damage markers.

Looks great, i have drove through villages in Normandy. the streets are very tight and the buildings are built just like these have been placed.

Thanks Chaps. Here's some images from my second village base. It goes with the first one to make up Villers Bocage for thenext Rapid Fire scenario book. All Rapid Ruins this time with some scotch built walling using Wills Finecast course stone panels and Miliput.
