So, after several years of painting Warhammer 40k miniatures, I felt it was time to get back to where it all started for me and make a start on the army I always wanted – a Peninsular War era 5th Northumberland Regiment of Foot. The trouble is, having little experience of the various companies out there making historical miniatures (I could never afford the likes of Perry when I was younger), I'm not sure where to start. I've settled on plastic, as I'm confident with it from my WH40k stuff, with some metal figs mixed in for variety. Hence, I've whittled it down to three likely candidates, but I'm not sure on the quality of each set. I'm looking at: 1. Warlord Games Peninsular War British Line Infantry link 2. Perry Miniatures British Napoleonic Line Infantry 1808-1815 link 3. Victrix Napoleonic Wars: British Infantry Centre Company 1789-1815 link Can anybody give me a comparison of the above 3 sets in terms of the quality of sculpting? |

It depends what your after. Warlord are the simplest for construction (just add head and backpack) while Victrix have the most variety in poses (marching, loading and firing poses with separate arms backpacks and heads). Perry are mid way with firing and loading poses. Detail wise I'd say Perry and Victrix are the most detailed but the Warlord are simple (read as simple to paint). I have a soft spot for the Perry heads, so use them with with Victrix and Warlord. Victrix 1815 heads are without shako covers. The Warlord heads are slightly bigger. My opinion buy all three! |

Perry is the best, Victrix, then Warlord Games. I am sure most would agree. Can't not compare with Perry's in sculpture. Victrix has more variety in parts which will give you more poses. Warlord is okay, not too keen about their metal figures that comes with the plastic figures. I have all three brands, I will go with Perry's. |

I think that I have seen some grumbling about the warlord weapons being fairly easy to break. My experience with the Perry WOTR plastics has been very positive. I am also soon going to be assembling and painting Perry plastic ACW figures. |

Perry figures are a firing line and are great , Warlord are marching figures and are the easiest to build with a metal command, personally I find Victrix very time consuming to build , and found the bayonets snapped very easily |

I have the Perry and Warlord ones. Perry's are, of course, gorgeous figures, fairly essential, and contain an exact amount including flank. In firing line, nice animation, and include 4(?) Riflemen. Warlord are good enough, and in march pose, so I'd go for both for variety across an army. Haven't got the Victrix as yet – got some French. Should point out the Victrix I have are a mix of firing line and marching within on box. Oh and the Brits have separate boxes for Flank Companies, so you'll have to buy a few boxes and divide up the troops. The Perry and Warlord contain a full unit in each, with appropriate command. Warlord also do alternative metal command packs for variety. |

I have Victrix British, they are a bit time consuming to build, but look very nice when done. I will post some on my blog when they are game ready. I never thought I would go with plastics but Triangle miniatures has them on sale for 30% off, so I got line and flank sets for British line and Highlanders. I also got the British artillery, Getting ready to build those next. |

Warlord British are the best option to me. Marching poses are practical, easiest to put together and excellent sculpting make it 3/3. |

Victrix give most options, and look really nice painted up. |

If you can buy only one box, go with Perry. But in the end, you can use all boxes together to have the most options. (For example, the british had other skirmishers than rifles. You can build them with Victrix.) |

I'm going Warlord for rank and file and Perry for command and skirmishers. The Victrix shakoes and backpacks don't match the other two, and I like my troops to be as similar as possible. |
