Just wanted to let people know of some great service by Cory and Chris at Cigar Box Battle Mat. I bought one before Christmas and was so impressed that I decide to purchase a few more but was disappointed when they got the order wrong. Now I live in Australia so postage etc was going to expensive and I'm pleased to report that not only did Cory and Chris immediately apologise but they sent out replacements at no cost and allowed me to keep the incorrect mats:)

Great mats and great service to boot!

Nice recovery by them. Good to hear they are trying to stay on their game.

I may have been the other half of the mix-up! I'm in the states, and recently received two mats that I had not ordered. After Cigar Box provided a postage paid label, I returned them, quickly received the correct mats, plus a little reimbursement for my trouble.

Glad it all worked out!

Are you using these mats with the new Blücher rules? They seem like an ideal match.

Hearing about this level of service is appreciated, cheers for the post.

I want order that beach mat badly. Postage scares me.

I keep hoping they add a Waterloo mat for 2015.

Ditto!

Spudeus you might be if you ordered a snow and desert mat and got two plains green mats instead.

cae5ar ordered the mats for general gaming but certainly hoping along with others that they will do a Waterloo mat for Blucher and other Nap battles as they have done for ACW.

I also have their Western Europe mat and it just makes the game look so much better than a piece of green cloth on the table!

Yep, that was my situation. Don't know when I'll use them but they seem well-made.

I saw them at Cold Wars and they looked really good – sadly no one was selling them.

The postage is what stops me too – $40 USD to ship a single mat to Canada is just crazy.

Trajanus12 Mar 2015 12:29 p.m. PST

Well the postage in the UK is small by comparison due to there being a UK supplier but at £59.99 GBP for the mat itself they are still not cheap!

OK they look a quality product but what puts me off is those mats that have a lot of printed detail on them, surely there's a limit to the number of times you can use them without feeling you are fighting over the same old thing?

Those printed up for particular battles must suffer from this most of all. How many times can you fight Gettysburg, Day 1?

GoodOldRebel12 Mar 2015 3:49 p.m. PST

I agree with Trajanus …the mats look beautifully made, but unless you're happy to either play the same historical battle over and over again or indeed the same random encounter I cant imagine i'd ever purchase one?

Personally, I'm looking at two of their mats. Maybe three.

Two plain ones would be very nice, because I can add all of the trees, shrubbery, et from my collection. There's another one I'm looking at for use with a couple of specific scenarios to run at our convention. Since it's once a year, it seems like that would be fine.

Also, did you fellows notice that the company also sells sections of matching cloth with terrain printed on it? You could buy a blank mat, those terrain sections, then just cut them out and place where you need.

Anyway, that's my two-cent's worth on the subject.

Trajanus15 Mar 2015 8:49 a.m. PST

Well I do have to admit that if I were going to go for any of them, the plain mats would be my choice too. As the Grassland, Desert (for ancients) and Ocean (for naval games) have the maximum utility.

Campaign books and logistics in Brisbane import/sells them. Might be alternate option?
