I recently rediscovered this old ITV series from 1987, even securing a copy of the novelisation by the series writer; Richard Cooper (I think he also did the 80's Michael Praed Robin of Sherwod series). Set in 2020 it follows the attempts of a resistance group protecting the only surviving heir to the Throne of England after a 20 year civil war has left the country in the grasp of a fascist pseudo-religious military dictatorship, the eponymous Knights of God. There are lots of Arthurian motifs as well; the resistance leader is called Arthur; The leader of The Knights is called Mordrin, the resistance are Welsh the Knights are Anglians; there is a zone called The Wasteland etc.

The first episode (available on YouTube) features an ambush of a Knights convoy by a Welsh resistance force and I thought would make a cool scenario.

The Knights have biker style leathers and helmets, with shoulder pad tabard style shoulders and breast and tend to be armed with Atirling SMGs or Steyr AUGs.

This rather over-emphasised cover of the German version illustrates their equipment pretty well.

Anyone think where I might find suitable figures to represent them?

What scale? In any case, that sounds like a tough one. Not a lot of figures that look like they're wearing biker leathers with pointy shoulders. In 28mm, maybe you could convert them out of the cops from em4's Future Skirmish range and/or Copplestone Castings' Future Wars range, but that would require resculpting the chests and shoulders, and obviously doing head swaps, so they don't really tick many boxes to begin with. The guns also aren't the same.

It sounds like a cool project, though. 80s retro sci-fi is getting more attractive with every passing year and I hope we start seeing more figures in that style soon. A few manufacturers like Woodbine Design Company (of Gripping Beast) and CP Models are already making some stuff like that but nothing that fits your Knights.

Watched the first few minutes of the first episode on Youtube. Looks fun. Even the ridiculous things like the way those helicopters were flying unreasonably close to each other heightened the sense of retro delight. And yeah, the style in general was reminiscent of Robin of Sherwood. That's a good thing. I also happen to be a fan of sci-fi adventure stories with a "resistance movement" premise, so this show is right up my alley. Thanks for the tip.

Mathias,

Check out the old Laserburn or HOF lines if you are looking for 15mm. You can find them at 15mm.co.uk. Most of the designs hail from that era and should have the design aesthetic you are searching for.

Rhoderic III,

If you are looking for 80s fun in 15mm, you might be interested in some new stuff from Loud Ninja Games (me) -

They do rather, don't they!

I was thinking 28mm or 20mm/1:72, but those are almost spot on!

The Welsh Resistance fellows shouldn't be too hard to find in 15s

Does anyone do British 1980s vehicles in 15mm? I suppose some of the Flames of War Vietnam stuff would be useful.

Just found what I'd need from QRF!

The ambush in Episode 1 features 3 trucks, a Land Rocer and a Ferret Armoured Car.
