Put some figures on the table last night for the first time just to get a feel. Felt a little confusing trying to get started.

*Forgive me if any of this is already answered in the book.

First thought is simply that it would be nice to have at least one concrete scenario in the book. I must say its really helpful when you're spankin fresh to the rules to be able to rely on specifics of where troopsa may be deployed, in what order, and then who goes first. I understand I can simply choose each of these things a and move on, but I have to admit I stared the the table for at least 15 minutes, going through the book, trying to make sure I wasn't screwing things up. This is less necessary after becoming familiar with the rules and consequences but helpful none the less.

Do droids get pinned?
Do droids have a leader that activates the group?
Do PA troops have a leader that activates the group?
Can you give an example of counting pins, casualties and wounded for pressure?
Are wounded and casualties considered 2 different concepts?
Can you explain the Firing Across Terrain section?
Can you give an example of, "Troops moving within 1" of a terrain feature for their entire move may elect to move at the 3" movement rate and avoid reaction fire."
Do woods provide a cover save?

That's all for now based on the trouble I was having last night.

Thanks!

Cheers!

I'll see what I can do about a starter scenario. Let me know if the answers below helps.

*Do droids get pinned?

Droids do get pinned. (they have some self-preservation built in and I suppose they can get physically knocked about)

*Do droids have a leader that activates the group?

They do, mostly for game purposes. I imagine it's the droid that is connected to the higher command levels.

*Do PA troops have a leader that activates the group?

Negative. Each PA trooper is an independent figure altogether.

Now, if you are fielding several of them, you could make one of them a PA "platoon" leader if you wanted.

*Can you give an example of counting pins, casualties and wounded for pressure?

Sure.

Example 1: No untreated wounded. An enemy shoots at me and pins 2 figures, wounds 1.

Pressure is 3. Roll a 4 or more to avoid fallingback.

Example 2:
Same squad again. They have one untreated wounded. Enemy shoots and scores no pins or wounds.
Pressure is 1 (0 pins rolled, 0 hits, 1 untreated wounded)

*Are wounded and casualties considered 2 different concepts?

Wounded that have not yet been treated contribute towards Pressure for morale tests.

*Can you explain the Firing Across Terrain section?

Sure. Put a wall on the table, about waist height.

Put a few soldiers on each side.

If either side has soldiers within 3" of the obstacle, both sides can shoot at each other.

If we're both more than 3" apart, we cannot.

*Can you give an example of, "Troops moving within 1" of a terrain feature for their entire move may elect to move at the 3" movement rate and avoid reaction fire."

Sure. If you have, say, a ruined building, a figure that is outside the feature but stays within 1" of it for their entire move can move at the 3" rate without rolling to rush (or taking reaction shots).

Essentially, it lets troops skulk around terrain features.

*Do woods provide a cover save?

They do not, though I have started that the actual tree models do (I use a tree template with a few actual trees on it).

I figure a few of the trees are big, old ones that can withstand quite a bit of fire.

Thanks! Very clear. These would be items that may be worth revisiting in future versions.

One follow up; is the "skulking" rule dependent on line of sight to the enemy? I'm trying to figure out how this rule is relevant, beyond the already stated, "models may move 3" when in cover".

Ps. Forgive my typo in the title *face palm*

Weasel16 Feb 2015 1:54 p.m. PST

Trust me, I add all this stuff to a list :)

And yes, the skulking is only relevant when you are in line of sight.

Basically, think of it like this: Each terrain feature has a 1" bubble around it where you don't take reaction fire, provided you stay within the bubble.

It's one of those "hard to make concise on paper" rules that basically covers that many terrain features would not really be as clearly delineated as our tabletop models are. A house might have all sorts of garbage and debris around it, for example.

If a figure is pinned down while behind a wall, is the figure then considered hiding? Same for woods?

Thanks!

yeah, they're hugging dirt.
