I will be traveling to Houston TX for the first time next week. Days will be occupied with business but what can I do in the evening?

Any hobby stores that I simply cannot miss?

Any good historical sites or museums I should visit?

Thanks!

Scouts out!

If you can go just outside of Houston, you can see the battleship Texas.

One of my chums was in Houston recently.

He went to the space centre, he thought it was pretty good.

If you book extra time New Orleans has the WWII Museum which is well worth a visit

There are a couple of game stores I try to visit when I go through H-Town.

Nan's Games and Comics Too: nansgames.com

Third Planet: third-planet.com

They are right down the road from each other, so pretty easy to get to.

If you're a fan of mystery fiction, the "Murder by the Book" shop at 3242 Bissonnet (near Rice Unv.) is definitely worth a visit

Welcome to Houston….

1: Don't honk your horn at all at anyone that does anything stupid on the freeway, (And they will). If you do, there is a good chance they will try to shoot you.

2: Understand what they mean by "Feeder road".

3: Buildings sweat too….get used to it.

4: Don't try to outrace the light rail system when crossing the tracks. You will lose. There's a whole slew of youtube videos that will support this.

5: Don't use the word "Pop" when asking for "A Coke". Ask for a "Coke", and then when they ask "What kind", tell them "Coke, Dr. Pepper, etc…"

6: Stay away from "The Montrose" late at night…unless you are into "that type of thing"….

7: Nans: Lots of stuff, no service, be ready to understand and learn the meaning of "ignored while at the counter." Comic book – movie conversations between fanboys and the counter monkey is more important than a paying customer. And every girl that works there, (when they do), is usually the gf of the current manager, and wishes she was working at a Hot Topic instead.

8: Third Planet: Some good stuff….the owner of the store is a hustler big time, (among other things), and is the type of guy that looks like he should be selling "custom jewelry" out of the trunk of his '75 caddy…

Have fun….

Just passed thru Houston myself. Third Planet is more a collectibles and toy shop, though they had some old RPG (and some out of print ones), plus a little rack of Reaper figures. It was a bit nostalgic to walk through.

Nan's games is literally down the road as mentioned above, but I would not recommend it, as the owner was rude and an ass. No public restrooms, when I approached the owner to ask about the price of an item, he loudly declared, "looks like someone took the sticker off", and after giving me the price, he immediately starts to ring it up without asking if I even wanted it at said price. However, the store does have a sizable stock of very old miniatures, including iKore and even Confrontation 3rd edition blisters. However, expect to pay full retail, the owner was not interested striking a deal for a discount on any old figs which were literally collecting dust on the shelf.
