"Just because I choose to fight a particular army does not mean that I agree with all that army has done historically I"

well as there are a lot of wwii german players out there, one would certainly hope so!!! otherwise what a depressing world…….

I'm Italian…but without any esitation i prefer the more romantic/agressed/beautiful flag/more elegant side…so i'm still painting 20mm Airfix grey plastics and singing Dixie………….

D. The Germans, specifically the Ohio 9th (Die Neuner). After that, the Cherokee.

D none of the above Because of the highly charged emotions it brings about I choose to avoid this war to game.

Long time ago I read that ECW is popular is US as the ACW is in GB, guess its easier to game when you have no family ghosts in that particular closet

In spite of the fact that I am a Red Sox fan, I do prefer the Yankees when it comes to ACW.

Unlike a fellow gamer who refuses to play a game where "Americans shoot other Americans…" (along with playing games set in Vietnam – where he served – and skirmish games – no idea why for that one,) I have been known to play both sides of the ACW but I prefer Missouri/Southwest settings and early war battles over late war battles and usually play the Union despite my states right personal political leanings. Maybe I like blue more than butternut? I don't know why I prefer the Union but I always seem to play that side unless I run the game.

Digression alert – stopping now will not lose anything relating to this topic.

You were warned.

Of course I am a sucker to join a game where I get to "Kill Englishmen…" of any era prior to 1914… wink … so if the ACW game goes "what if" with intervention by Britain I am "in" with the side that, to quote an ancestor, "fights the Sassenach foe."

Further digression:

Although I understand from a discussion about 8 years ago that word basically means – "someone who lives 'south' of where I do" and not necessarily English?

from that series of posts: "…Most people would think the Scottish word for an Englishman was Sassenach, when in fact this is not the case. Sassenach is a Gaelic word which simply means "Southerner", so to someone from the Highlands, someone in Edinburgh or Glasgow is as much a Sassenach as an English person is.

Southron is a term you don't hear used that often, but that could be used to refer to the English I guess…."

I have no clue how accurate that term really is. Or how serious the ancestor I knew was. Sarcasm and irony can lost on the young (and I was very young and he was very filled with sarcasm and irony – among other much worse traits.)

Pardon the digression.

I'm not from the US so I'll play either on the rare occasion I do play.
I do tend towards whoever lost historically because it tends to be more interesting that way.

Obviously, as a scandinavian, pacifist-liberal-hippie-commie with a proud, Yankee wife, living in the people's republic of Oregon, I have no confederate sympathies.
