As a Brit I enjoy playing either side. My preference usually depends on the battle or scenario we are playing. I would prefer to play Union on the first day of Gettysburg but rather be Confederates for the rest of the battle!! |

I kind of aligned with B for most of my life, but I've found that the more I read the less I can do that. I am not one who aligns with either side now, but find the whole conflict fascinating. |

C – While I generally hold Unionist opinions, I wind up playing the Confederate side just as often as I do the Union. And I don't even try to drive them into the ground unlike some actual Confederate commanders (and Union for that matter). |
21eRegt | 12 Feb 2015 6:14 p.m. PST |
I started with Confederate because everyone was Union. Now I have too much of both, but no real preference. My Father's side fought for the Confederacy but my Mother's side for the Union. So it's a no-win for me! |

A. … up with the star! My great grand-uncle served in the 10th Missouri (U.S.) in the Army of Tennessee. Fought through all of their campaigns until captured in late 1864. According to my grandfather's recollection, he suffered miserably and never forgave "dem damn revels" (he was a German immigrant). I'm sure he'd come back to haunt me at night if I ever took the Rebels's side in a wargame. :) |

Being British, I have no personal connections. From that perspective, the ACW is a good choice because you're not going to feel bogged down with your own historical bias. Two similar armies, pick a side. Away from painting little men, I can't sympathise with the South but we did have some very very distant relatives in New Orleans once upon a time so I felt constrained to include some Louisiana regiments in the force. |
