I'm working on modifications to the Lord of the Rings SBG to make it work as a sci-fi skirmish game. Mostly tinkering with new missile weapon types, and adding rules to represent being pinned under fire. I've got a complete write up of my current changes at my blog if anyone else wants to give it a whirl:

Let me know how it goes, if you do. Suggestions are welcome.

I'm in the middle of my first session with it right now, pitting 10 Colonial Marines against 14 Nova Respublikans (I'm halving all the distances for 15mm). So far it is running smoothly and enjoyably. A Smartgun using suppressive fire can lay down a brutal amount of pinning hits, but leaving them too exposed tends to attract anti-tank rockets.

I find leaving distances as they are when using 28mm rules with 15mm figs gives a better sense of range for modern and scifi. Just my $.02 USD

Fair point. I've heard similar comments in the WH40K 15mm discussions. I'll give it a try when I'm playing on a larger battlefield.

Ditto to punkrabbit. I play 15mm and don't modify distances. It works fine and looks good.

I'm a big LOTR fan, so I can't wait to see what you did.
