I'm looking for suggestions as to what to buy for a Ultramodern Chinese Armor force. I'd be doing in 6mm, preferably Scotia and GHQ, though I'm open to other manufactures. I can't seem to find much definitive (or even less reliable) info as to the organization or equipment used by the Chinese military. Their newest MBT seems to be the Type 99, correct? What would be the equivalent IFV? I'm hoping to make a reinforced armor and mechanized company, something to square off against T-90s/BMP3s and M1A2s/Brads or even against Strykers. I looked into GHQs selection, and they have quite a few different vehicles, but their premade Combat Command (which I almost picked up) for some reason has Type 98s in it, which as far as I can tell were hardly produced at all. Any advice would be welcome. |

A lot of China military org is speculative since China is very secretive about their military & organization. Currently, in their rush to re-arm, Navy & Air Force take precedence over land forces, however, you might want to consider creating a naval infantry force(like a MEU) for future conflicts. This may be the best armed force that any Western country may first encounter. GHQ does provide suggested org for all their armies. PDF link In general China, follows Soviet organization: ie 3 tanks per company, 3-Co per battalion +1 command tank or ~10 tanks per battalion. China also uses 2 types Gen-3 of MBTs, a "better" Type 99 along with the Type 96 MBTs. Guard and elite Divs. have the Type 99. China is introducing several types of IFVs, both tracked and wheeled as well as still use older models and APCs. It's up to you how you want to arm your units. For a list, you can look at Google: link |

cwlinsj covered it pretty well… I'm also planning a 6mm Chinese MEU, all GHQ. I'm going with ZBD2000/ZBD05/ZLT05 for the IFVs and amphibious tanks. Unfortunately they don't make a ZBD97/ZBD04 (China's modern IFV for heavy mechanized units). So if you really want a tank-mech team I'd either use the modern amphib IFVs as stand-ins (they look similar the ZBD04) or use the Type98 as a Type96 stand-in and use China's old/obsolete YW534 APC. This would decently represent a 2nd-tier combined arms force. |

Does anyone do a micro-armor model of the old Chinese Type 59? I do understand that early Russian T-54/55 models would serve (especially in that scale), but was wondering. Duck |

I understand that this isn't precisely what was asked, but C-in-C does do a Type 69 ( link , at the bottom). I am generally more a fan of them than GHQ, though, admittedly, you would have to go to GHQ (out of the pair, at least) for ultra-modern gaming involving the PLA. |

PDF link The above reference is very dated, but useful. Most 'modern' Chinese combat vehicles aren't widely fielded. Modern combat vehicles are expensive to build and maintain – even for the Chinese. I'm presently building a Chinese militia battalion. Add trucks and trim the support weapons, and it should work for the early 21st Century, too. pjm |
