"The Navy is ditching all of its frigates, with the help of Bremerton shipyard workers. The 51 Oliver Hazard Perry-class vessels were designed to protect ships at sea and conduct anti-submarine warfare. They also combated mines, drug runners and pirates. Now, according to the Navy's latest 30-year shipbuilding plan, they're passe. "Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates were great ships for their intended period of service," Navy spokeswoman Lt. j.g. Katherine Dransfield said. I had a conversation with a Coast Guard type about the OHP frigates. They did get a few of them. They don't want them because of the manpower requirements is too high. They need smaller ships spread out over large areas. |

It's been replaced by the LCS, which to many stands for Less Capable Ship. |

I thought LCS stood for Little Crappy Ship. At least, that's what I've read. |
