Excellent read for the AAR. The pictures of the terrain and figures were also nice to see. Well done…now if I could manage some time to get my own figures painted. I will also have to get the rule set as I have yet to find something that I like. Thanks for the article.
Regards,
Hitman

Great write up.LR is a great game,so much so that I'm playing it now with my 9 year old daughter.I'm doing it in 1/72 scale as I already have 2 WAB armies completed in that scale.

Eric…just LOVE your table.
Hitman…if you've been unhappy with medieval rules in the past you may find you're somewhat disappointed with LR.

UFB: Why do you think Hitman will be disappointed with LR?

uglyfatbloke29 Jan 2015 8:54 a.m. PST

Depends on how keen he is on medieval history. If he's keen he'll be disappointed. If he just wants a game with knights – and why should n't he? – then he may well like it a lot. Plenty of people do.

I agree the rules are more Hollywood than history but you'd have to buy them blind not to be aware of that before purchase since there are plenty of reviews out there. I think LR delivers a good 'medieval-styled' game, so it really depends on what Hitman is after.

The author of Lion Rampant, Dan Mersey, makes no highfalutin' claims in regards to his rules. In his own words:

"LR is not a subtly nuanced simulation of medieval combat, but is a game set in a world of knights and knaves… My starting point for LR is simplicity. I've tried to reduce down the game mechanics to their most basic form without losing the feel of medieval combat… LR is (hopefully!) a game to enjoy playing and that runs smoothly…"

Surely that is fair enough?
