Hi, Just finished playing River Plate and Denmark Straits scenarios yesterday. We had a lot of fun, but I wonder if anyone on the board could help clarify a couple of points about these rules: Fires: Is there a specific check you need to do every time you are hit to see if fires start? Or is fire started only if you get the "Fire" critical hit, or if there is nothing to damage in the critical hit procedure, and you carry the CVs over to fire (10.3 page 46). Specifically, when do you perform the "Fire test 10.9"? Raking critical hits: The rules say you perform one critical hit _effect_ roll above normal when hit with raking fire. Does the first hit have to cause a critical for this second effect test to take place? Or do you automatically cause a critical effect if you hit when raking? Do you use the same CV as before, spending the first CV on whatever happened, and then starting again with the same CV for the additional raking critical hit? Do you need to penetrate armour for the second effect? Cheers, Aksu |

Aksu, I've only played on game myself, so I'm by no means an authority on the subject. Fires: It seems the fire test is intended only for Carriers and Airbases, which must check each time they are hit (10.8). I do not think Fire tests affect other types of units. My understanding is that for regular units, you only have fires started on specific critical hits and these are automatically started. I don't know the critical hit rules well enough to comment if crits that miss everything just start fires (you may be right there). Raking criticals: The wording is a bit ambiguous there. I'd play it that you only get one extra crit if you caused a crit to begin with. I'd certainly check armour as part of it. You can probably email A&A and get a more correct response! -Tim |
