Hi All,

This sounds like a simple question, but it might be complex. How do people see basing Byzantines?

Desert bases or grassy bases?

What would suit Byzantines? The Battle of Manzikert in Turkey looks like a desert battle, but other people might disagree. All ideas welcome.

I myself think desert bases would be right for Byzies. What do you guys think?

I think they'd be fine, but I'd go for something that looks dry but not desert. It kind of depends on what era Byzantines and where they are supposedly fighting. There's certainly desert around but I imagine in the campaigns in Armenia and Mesopotamia you've got a lot of dry but with considerable vegetation. If you're fighting in Eastern Europe that's probably believable but desert not so much.

Mine are sandy with green scrub, the 2 tone effect works well :)

I used Highland tufts (no green) though. I like the look for a change. And when a game is over and there are troops all over the table, you can't miss em!

Same for me. I do a desert base with lots of scrub and patches of grass. Looks pretty good to me.

Thanks gents,

Looks like desert scrub is the way to go. Nice video tutorial and pics. Good looking armies.
