We had a game last Sunday: twelve Mexican peons trying to capture/kill an evil US Mine agent protected by four Texas rangers, with four US cavalry riding to reinforce the Gringos, but having to evade four mounted Indians along the way.
Perhaps you picked up the significance of the number four. This is the maximum 'gang' size, the gang being the standard unit of the game.
The scenario designer and GM, who in the past has played a lot of TRWNN and LoTOW, found a number of advantages in LoTG over its aforementioned rivals (primarily its greater suitability for multi-player games)but also had some criticisms of the layout and organisation of the rules, as he always(perhaps justifiably)does with Mr Peers' output.
But in the end his opinion was mostly positive, and the game certainly plays fast (despite incorporating the detail of individual hit locations), so it looks like becoming our Old West game of the moment. It will join Mr Peers' other recent effort, his Osprey pirate rules 'On the Seven Seas' as a group favourite.
