Howdy,

Federals set up with 2nd WV in Staunton proper and the remainder of Schenk on the ridge to the west.

Rebs entered and very deliberately massed all three brigades before advancing to engage on Turn 4. I did not give them warning of when Federal reinforcements would arrive but they were in plain sight (troops in boxes off table).

Schenk's lads fought well and being stationary were able to dish out real punishment. Rebs left their gun battery back to shoot long range but then blocked it's fire. No doubt a big mistake. Federal artillery in short range did real damage. Rebs wrapped around the Federal right and concentrated fire on 25th Ohio. Once in place they charged with three brigades and finished it, but lost 31st Virginia in the melee, and Conner exhausted. So they had turned the Federal right, but with an exhausted brigade they couldn't do much to capitalize on the success. Scott's people took the brunt of the artillery fire. Anderson was working around the Federal left and only lightly engaged.

Conner exhausted but did not collapse. No other unit exhausted. (Scott and Schenk were both down to 1 box) When Federals reinforcements (Milroy's Bde) entered on Turn 6 the Rebs called for retreat.

I'll post pictures when I get them.

Ponder on,

For those not connecting the dots, this is an ongoing campaign played using Volley & Bayonet at Battalion Scale.

Sounds like the Rebs need the historical Stonewall to turn up to save this campaign :-)

Howdy,

Photos above from Turn 4 battle of Churchville-Staunton. Shown below are photos from the Turn 5 battle:

Schenk deployed, Fremont in Staunton

Rebels approach

Two of Conner's regiments are off the table, exhausting Conner. 25th Ohio is no more. Scott has lost a brigade, and the laggard Tennessee brigade is essentially unscathed. During the Federal part of the turn Milroy will march on, ending any hope the rebs had to prevail.
