"The secret of American victory in World War II was quantity and quality. Copious amounts of weapons and equipment that not only overwhelmed and outmatched the Axis arsenal, but helped enable Lend-Lease allies like Britain and Russia to do the same.

Not that every U.S. weapon was great. The ubiquitous M-4 Sherman tank was plentiful but mediocre. Early U.S. fighters like the P-40 and P-39 were nothing to brag about (except in the hands of the Flying Tigers), while U.S. submarine torpedoes had a bad habit of not exploding until late 1943…"

The B-29 killed the most people, mostly Japanese civilians, even if you put the atomic bombings in a separate category from the conventional bombings.

The escort carrier finally defeated the U-boats and re-opened the sea lanes to cargo.

The LST could land heavy equipment and supplies almost anywhere, without port facilities. The LST arguably made the allied amphibious invasions possible, and so won the war.

Yes, it is true more were killed by the other bombing raids, then the dropping of 2 Nucs … However, for only 2 B-29s a few days a part, they did some horrific damage. And I agree, others have said the US Landing Craft fleet, was a big asset. I've also heard some historians say, "Nucs ended the War, radar won it … " …
