Does anyone produce suitable figures in this scale for the Brits and Argies, e.g. with proper weapons and kit? I am looking for infantry, paras, and SAS/SBS figs, etc.

I would like to buy some to do some skirmishes and raids, and permit the use of 1/100th scale aircraft too.

Also, does anyone do Gr.3's, Pucaras, MB-339's, in this scale? I know QRF does some of the helos, but don't recall seeing the others for a reasonable price.

Thanks,

Rob

MJ Figures in the UK did some, ISTR.

Still available, at least according to their website. Go look in the Manufacturers directory, under 'Dragon's Hoarde'.

They have both UK troops and Argentines, including special half figures with trenches and foxhole casting for simulating dug-in troops.

ooops.
That should be 'Hoard'.

I guess 'Hoarde' could be a new word, either to signify a hoard of hordes, or perhaps to refer to someone who confuses 'hoard' and 'horde'...

As for aircraft Model Power makes a diecast MB-339,Revell Germany did a 1/100 scale GR-3 in plastic Corgi does a diecast one in close to 1/100.
No one makes Pucara in 1/100 scale.QRF makes a Puma and Gazelle,Corgi does a Wessex in close to 1/100 scale and as
for a Seaking Tamiya and later Revell made one in 1/100
scale. No Chinook made in that scale yet.
Sirmar a company that makes ship fittings does Sea Harrier,Sea King, and navy Lynx in 1/96 scale and Italeri did a Sea Harrier in 1/100.

Wow, you guys are great!

Thanks for the quick responses, and the detailed info.

I also know that QRF does a towed Rapier, to keep the Argie aircraft at bay.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Rob

And don't forget that the Falklands War is proof that the 'special relationship' is real, and that America really does love the Limeys!! Only the Brits get a free pass on violating the Monroe Doctrine!

;)

Well, I imagine we might consider Australia and New Zealand as well, but not sure they have the force projection required.

Can anyone comment on the overall quality of the MJ Figures, since they are a bit small to see any detail on the website, and when I copied them and tried to enlarge, the details just wash out?

They look similar to the Command Decision range of WWII figs, but not 100% sure.

Does anyone do inflatables, or rigid raiders in this scale, or will I need to scratch-build those?

Ivan DBA08 Feb 2005 8:08 p.m. PST

I haven't seen the Falklands figs in person. I do have some of their Sci-Fi figs and Napoleonics. They are pretty clean castings, not that much flash. Detail is reasonably good, not top of the line, but raised and/or deeply engraved so it is easy to paint.

I do have a couple of the old MJ catalogs. The Falklands pics look quite good.

Mako13-
If you are seriously torn on whether or not to use them, post your email and I'll try to send a scan of the catalog pages.

I have a large amount of the 15mm Falklands figs by MJ/Nearly New. Both Brits and Argies. The figs are big and unique in thier sculpting style. IMO, a tad bigger than and bulkier than Command Decision. Much bigger than Peter Pig. The sculpting style is a little rough, poses aren't super animated, but with all this said: I really like them! The equipment is accurate, and the figs paint up very well. The poses while not super animated, are very realistic and the half figs for trenches are nice. The range is fairly comprehensive. I got mine when MJ was sold to Nearly New, it took an unbelievable amount of effort and time to get the figs (especially since I am in the US and they were in the UK). I actually found someone who was going to be at a convention where the owner of Nearly new would be, I arranged through a third party (Mongrel Miniatures) to actually broker the purchase. Alot of effort, but very much worth it! as an aside, MJ has some nice vehicles too: Scorpions, AMLs, Rapiers, etc..You could probably use 1:72 or 1:87 scale stuff for MJ since they are a very big "15".

Thanks for the notes guys, and for the offer to send some scans of the photos. I appreciate it.

I just want to make sure that they look reasonably decent, and from the small pics, it looks like they do, but I hate to buy stuff without seeing the details, so as not to be disappointed. The poses look reasonably good, so I think they will work for my needs.

So, it sounds like they are 18mm - 20mm in height?

My e-mail is rkentjr@hotmail.com

Hopefully, now that they take Paypal, the financial end should be less of a problem.

Ivan DBA10 Feb 2005 9:39 p.m. PST

No problem Mako!
I've just emailed 6 pics, 5 are of pictures from an old catalog, and one is of a page describing the pack contents.

Mako1310 Feb 2005 10:43 p.m. PST

Thanks Ivan. I really appreciate it.

In reading the details of the packs, I have become a bit concerned, since I think many of the Argies (or at least my impression is) were armed with SLR's as well, based upon a TOE I looked up, and some of the photos I have seen. Therefore, I was surprised to see that most of the MJ troops are armed with M-14's (or was it M-1's?). Anyway, I thought those were only used by some of their reserve units.

I guess I'll need to do a bit more research to check on the weapons they were issued, and/or try to convince some manufacturers to create a decent, in-depth range with the right kit, and varying poses, which should include multiple prone figs, since the islands were barren in many areas.

Ivan DBA10 Feb 2005 11:07 p.m. PST

You're welcome!

I hope you can find those other figs you need! I know how frustrating it can be when you are looking for something particular in a more obscure area!
