Loved the report--excellent looking table. Our club has also been enjoying the Great War Spearhead rules. |

Thank you very much for sharing. The change to BEF is a nice one. This makes the scenario fit the Lys river battles that took place at the end of the Race to the Sea. There were similar types of engagement battles near the La Bassee Canal but the waterway obstacle ran in the other direction. This would correspond with the obstacle along the short table edge, playing no part in the battle. The Lys river, on the other hand, formed a natural barrier between the British (and French) versus the Germans. I like the buildings very much. Nice job with those especially. Robert |

Resistance is useless! Whoever designed the scenario was very cunning. A series of woods and hills just far enough from the objectives for a short dash from cover, assaulting across a bridge or ford to obtain the objectives if your opponent gets there first, a nice bottle neck on the allied side where they have to cross another bridge to get to one of the objectives, another side-channel stream inconveniently making lateral movement difficult for the Germans and finally objectives at the limit of command control It certainly made things challenging, and rather like the contemporary commanders we have a lot of trial and error learning to do about what tactics work. |
