I would think that 10 per day would be reasonable. Less is sometimes more.

Pictors Studio21 Jan 2015 3:42 p.m. PST

If you think someone posts too much you can hit the ignore button on them.

Leadjunky21 Jan 2015 3:46 p.m. PST

Yes, but sometimes they do contribute something in which I am interested. I just have to filter through so much daily to get to what is even remotely related to miniatures and miniatures is the reason I visit. I am not for censorship, just moderation. And I am not just referring to the message board, but the marketplace as well. I paid for membership so I could sell some things from time to time as an individual, but it appears that stores are now posting on the marketplace as well. I single post for sell quickly gets pushed down the page into obscurity. Perhaps I should just post it multiple times throughout the day.

Gee, I wonder who he could be talking about.

Ivan DBA21 Jan 2015 4:01 p.m. PST

The member in question has made it abundantly clear he has no interest in moderation. And Bill has made it abundantly clear he has no interest in moderating the member in question.

Any further discussion of this is a waste of time. Your only options are to accept this member's posting practices, or Ignore him entirely. Like you, I appreciated some of his posts, but I reluctantly decided they were not worth having to put up with the rest of it.

It is because of the individual posts instead of the one post that contains all the items sold. This is an easy fix. Think about it because if had to sell 500 items would I post the all separately? No. Probably not. This would be discourteous. Although my bluntness sometimes makes my guilty as charged. :)

Dynaman878921 Jan 2015 4:41 p.m. PST

Maybe bringing this up again should be a dawghawsing offense?

Cerdic21 Jan 2015 4:52 p.m. PST

I find if you turn off the Nude Figures and Ultramodern boards the post count issue disappears. This may not be a solution for you if they are particular areas of interest though!

Great War Ace21 Jan 2015 5:01 p.m. PST

I'll give that last suggestion a try!…

Do you people who complain about complaints LOOK for threads to bitch on?

princeman21 Jan 2015 6:05 p.m. PST

I vote for unlimited posts. Freedom of speech you see.

Winston Smith21 Jan 2015 7:28 p.m. PST

I'm sick of threads like this. Make it a poll suggestion. And if it does not pass, live with it and quit complaining.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP21 Jan 2015 7:34 p.m. PST

It seems people are complaining about two people; one who posts a lot, and the other who posts a lot in the marketplace. I agree that marketplace posts should be combined into lists of like items.

Rrobbyrobot21 Jan 2015 7:37 p.m. PST

John the OFM, er, Winston Smith speaks wisely.

Nah, they just pop right up…

Leadjunky21 Jan 2015 8:40 p.m. PST

Are polls binding then? Look I regret bringing it up. I will try to overlook discourteous practices in the future and avoid posting when I first get home from work and am already half frustrated. I will try turning off some boards or use ignore and see if that makes me feel better. Thanks.😊

Leadjunky21 Jan 2015 9:24 p.m. PST

Well turning off a couple of boards and the ignore feature really cleared things out. I hated to do it to you guy, but I do feel better.

Personal logo aegiscg47 Supporting Member of TMP21 Jan 2015 9:26 p.m. PST

I know who the OP is talking about and I just finally put him on ignore, which is the best solution. Before I did that, however, I briefly thought about making about 50 posts a day that led to random gaming sites for a week, but something told me that wouldn't be appreciated and it wasn't worth the trouble to get my pound of flesh. Ignore is the easier option.

Tango0121 Jan 2015 9:26 p.m. PST

That's would be your best move here. (smile)

there's a nude figures board?

Sergeant Paper21 Jan 2015 9:50 p.m. PST

Stifle plus Ignore do wonders, whether in boards or the marketplace. Better to miss the odd post or sale item than get jugged because they raised your ire.

Martin Rapier22 Jan 2015 12:12 a.m. PST

As above, turning off Ultramodern helps a great deal in all sorts of ways, as does extending the front page to 400 items displayed.

B6GOBOS22 Jan 2015 12:59 a.m. PST

The only time I used the stifle and ignore feature. Oh and turn off the ultra modern board. You will feel much better.

Doug em4miniatures22 Jan 2015 5:01 a.m. PST

That's it in a nutshell. Do that and you reclaim the streets.

So what this all comes down to is that everyone here (even the supporters who rush to his defense) has to modify their behavior or viewing of TMP in some way, even the editor, who has had to modify the website to address the issue at hand, all because one person refuses to listen, refuses to restrain themselves, and refuses to follow basic forum and internet etiquette. He's even refused to follow some of supporters advice about aggregating his stuff into one or fewer threads so the material he does share can still be enjoyed by those who like it and more easily accommodate those who don't. But nope. So he doesn't even really care what his friends here think. That's the definition of obstinancy, or at the very least completely socially inept.

No wonder he thinks it's his page to topic spam as he sees fit.

Everywhere else in the internet and he would have been banned or his topics moved.

But no. Not here in TMP land, which is still stuck in web 1.0 in technology and web culture. No, here a spam troll is special and treated like some kind of socially awkward celebrity.

Cripes this place is weird.

Norman D Landings22 Jan 2015 1:28 p.m. PST

There have been many, many threads on this theme… and I've always steered clear of them.

But what the heck, here's my tuppen'orth:

Last summer, I played in an absolutely stunning game, arranged and umpired by TMP's Mahotsukai.

In an intriguing variation on the 'Colonial' theme, the scenario involved French and British 7YW forces clashing in East Africa, with various native factions involved.

It was a real labour of love, with great-looking figures, amazing scenery, and using Herkybird's own rules.
The game would have got admiring comments at any show.

A real gem of a game, and an absolute pleasure to play.
Herkybird took some tremendous photos, did a full write-up, and posted it on his blog.
link

Then he posted about it on TMP.
What a waste of time.
Within the hour, his post was just blasted off the front page by a total spamalanche and banished to obscurity.

That was it for me.
I considered the time and effort those guys put into the hobby, compared that to the ability to repeatedly hammer the cut-&-paste function, and made my choice.

Imagine boarding a long-haul flight – finding yourself sat behind a infant bawling tirelessly at the top of its voice- and than finding a magic button that rendered it blissfully silent.
That's how it felt for me.

Obviously, YMMV.

forrester23 Jan 2015 5:52 a.m. PST

I've now used the "ignore",for the first time ever, nothing personal, don't know the individual, but purely to de-clutter the front page, and give me more chance to see what interests me.

ordinarybass24 Jan 2015 7:55 a.m. PST

Is it possible to turn off the "ultra-Modern" board without turning off all the modern boards?

I think that would go a long way to cleaning up my TMP experience, but I don't want to loose all modern discussion from my front page.

ordinarybass24 Jan 2015 8:04 a.m. PST

As to leadjunky's issue, a 10 post limit isn't a good idea since that would overly limit real discussion. You're best solution is to do what others have said.
-Drop Ultramodern from your front page
-Increase front page to 400 posts
-Ignore and Stifle you-know-who. I wouldn't worry much about missing his posts, if it's something really useful, chances are someone else has already posted about it. Even after Ignoring and Stifling someone you can always search by member and see if they've put up any topics worth viewing.

The posts you're trying to avoid will still show up on the individual boards, but if you do the above, you can probably do all your TMP'ing from the front page. It's what I do now and it works out well. My front page now contains about 4 days of posts that I'm interested in. so I don't miss anything.

Fred Mills24 Jan 2015 9:34 a.m. PST

Like others here, I've now used the 'ignore' feature – which I gather is a new tool – to eliminate one frequent poster from the front page. I found it a bit sad. I was sometimes quite interested in a few of those posts, but far more often I was not. The majority appeared to be clipping service-like links to modern defence and security news items having nothing to do with hobby pursuits. It would be nice if people self-censored themselves a little, I suppose, but the person in question is perfectly entitled to do as he pleases unless the editor decides otherwise.

I'm nevertheless grateful to have an easy 'filter' button that helps me turn down the 'noise'. The slight annoyance of having to do this is far outweighed by the helpfulness and sheer enjoyment of many of the other things here, including – sometimes – a useful link or story provided by you-know-who. Wonderful stuff, on the whole, so my thanks to all of the 'regulars' especially, and to the editor, for providing it all.

'Amicalement' – sans doubt, as a great man once said!

Painter Jim20 Feb 2015 3:52 p.m. PST

I am going to have to take the step also in this area of said poster, just not worth my insued headache and frustration it sometimes developes. I have found myself counting the daily post on my front page and was rather upset about it and realized that this is not normal in any form of way, maybe change name to spamgo. But now I have the tools to semi combat it.
Thanks for pointing out the methods to utilize.
Honestly if the op name was on the post title and not just only found on my front page, would help cosideraly, this way I can just choose to ignore him myself when I see his post.

Painter Jim20 Feb 2015 4:41 p.m. PST

Ok, done deal and will see how it goes.
