What's the best method you have used for basing miniatures for snow terrain. What about snow on roofs?

I've used a mixture of white glue, white or off white sand and off white paint. Once it dries, I heavily dry brush it with pure white. I just did this recently for a friend's evil snow men.

I bought snow from games workshop. It's a bit pricey but does the job.

Baking Powder, can't get much cheaper than that at 79 cents a box

apparently pure white glass bubbles used in fillers for GRP construction makes great snow… I aim to find out in the next twelve months…

Has anyone else tried simple table salt? Or even sugar?

I use the snow stuff from Scenic Effects. I apply it simply by putting white paint on the areas and putting that stuff on while it is still wet.

A local hobbyshop guy runs the company Maus Mix, which includes "Winter Frost":

I've been basing with FlexPaste (for bulky snow), white glue, sand, Maus Mix, then a sprinkle of Woodland Scenics snow for my Winter War soldiers. Oh, and occasional Army Painter Battlefield tufts.

For rooftops, I use watered down white glue sprinkled with the Woodland Scenics snow.

Woodland scenic snow fro fresh stuff. White glue and baking soda mix makes great slush/ice.
For scatter on a table, I use the bags of ground Styrofoam for Christmas villages

I would think never salt, it would decay a figure I'm sure. it can turn aluminum to dust.
But smaller figures 15mm down thought about imbedding them in spackle or joint compound if you like. it finishes white and smaller size doubt one would miss the graduals.
