I was thinning out my painted 15mm ACW figures this weekend and came across several Whitworth rifled guns. As I do mainly western battles I thought I could sell off all the castings. My only reference I could find for the north using them was that McCellan had them (but did not use them). My only reference for the south was that Lee used a battery in the eastern theater. Does anyone have any knowledge of the use of this field piece in the western theater during the war? Thanks PzJ |

Not that I know of. I believe their was a section of two at fort fisher that would run out on the beach and fire at blockaders as blockade runners came in. But that's the only other use I can think of off the top of my head. |

Yes, Bledsoe's 5th Missouri Battery (CSA) did have one Whitworth gun which exploded during Battle of Raymond, Mississippi, May 12, 1863. link Jim |

There were several Whitworth's in the Washington Louisiana Artillery in the ANV. I would have to look up which company they were with. I didn't know about Bledso's battery, thanks ColCampbell. |

Was it a pair of Whitworths that signalled the start of the Confederate bombardment prior to Picket's Charge? |
