Don't know where to post this one so …

Is anyone in the UK using a 3D machine to print stuff for wargames yet ? Not companies, I mean regular gamers.

The cheapest is now down to just £400.00 GBP GBP …..

I have been using a Makerbot II for terrain.

I was in the newsagents today (Smiths) and I noticed one of those Part Works magazines has just started …… to build your own 3D Printer.

I saw that. 90 issues at £9.00 GBP each (plus two cost £5.00 GBP more each) that's £830.00 GBP in total. It appears that I can buy one for less and have it here next week ….

My buddy has just bought one……still playing with it and testing the capabilities of the machine……some of the test sculpts are interesting.
Are there any free plans/programs for downloading and printing- of finished items not the CAD systems?

I've seen ads that Dremel is making a 3D printer for around $999. USD Sounds affordable and is becoming very tempting. But is it any good?

I have tried printing a variety of wargames figures on a good quality filament printer. A 60mm figure was the smallest size that looked half decent. The problem is that filament printers typically can't produce thin enough layers whilst keeping up a good flow of material.

Do not buy a printer unless you know how it works and what it can do.

I made some landing craft for FOW for Normandy. I haven't had time to work on the beach defenses yet. I have MakerBot Replicator 2.

If you are planning on buying one, find the program they use to drive the printer and try it first. MakerBot seemed to be the most forgiving for my models. Most of the other ones I tried would complain about models created in zbrush having open triangles, and that's all they would do.
