I tried to comment on your blog, doesn't look like it worked.

I think the barrels are too big. Assuming that your mecha are roughly 2x man-height (~3.6m tall), a 20mm cannon barrel would be about the same proportions as a large rifle barrel. Look at a picture of someone with a buffalo rifle or a Winchester lever-action, that's about how thin the barrel 'should' be.

While a plain tube is easier to model, I'd recommend a barrel like the one on the Bushmaster Chain Guns: fluted and very tapered. The fluting makes the barrel stiffer and lighter, in addition to increasing the surface area for cooling.

Of course, trying to cast a fluted barrel could best be described as 'interesting'.

Thanks for the feedback. I've decided to replace the guns with a modified DP9 heavy rifle, which you'll get to see at some point.
