More than happy to share this idea. I didn't know what nerf weapons would show up so I set a fixed distance that was pretty challenging as it turns out. Your skills, nerf guns, target variety will vary so adjust to what is fun for your group. Here are the rules and turn sequence. Western Gunfight Game North American Western Gunfight Association Shoot Out Championship Turn Sequence: 1. All players will be dealt a card from a standard deck of poker cards. 2. Players will resolve the turn order from highest card rank to lowest with the following exceptions. Special Cards and abilities: Q Hearts will allow you to remove one wound marker. J allows you to aim your shot and adjust to the next larger target. 2 allows you to shoot twice in a given turn sequence. 3.Move your playing piece on the town map using the 3" stick. Leave the stick on the table to show the route that you moved. IF YOU ARE RELOADING any number of shots your turn ends. Flip your "this turn" bullet to shot mode and then adjust your D6 ammo to "6". 4.Select a target on the table that you might want to shoot at. 5.Measure the distance to the target using the 3" banded ruler to get the number of range bands away the target sets. 6.ONE SHOT MODIFIERS. You will be using your choice of Nerf weapon to hit a circular target located a fixed distance away. You will be counting the target circles from largest to smallest according to distance and target attitude and activities you have engaged in during your movement portion of the turn. +1 Modifiers: Each range band on the distance to target ruler You moved You were just shot at and they missed (for return fire) You are wounded You are aiming at the path of travel – opportunity fire on your opponent's movement stick. -1 Modifiers: You are point blank on your target as in base to base You have a Jack playing card that allows aiming 7.Load and fire your Nerf Gun at the determined target circle. If you enter the target circle you have a hit. Place a wound marker sticker on the player you shot. "GM Notes:These stickers were bloody bullet hole wounds I made on copier name tag sticky sheets. " 8.Turn your ammo dice down one number to record expended ammunition. We will all start with a D6 and use this for ammo capacity regardless of our Nerf. 9.Turn your "this turn" bullet to the shot side. You only shoot once in a card sequence of movements. 10.When all players have resolved their playing card sequence a new hand of cards is dealt. Thanks for your interest. Please let us know if you try this game or if you have questions. |

Terrement,
I wonder as an alternative if it would work shooting at a set distance against 6" marx cowboys, 54mm ish plastic cowboys like TSSD, 28mm ish plastics, and your 1/72 plastics to represent the difficulty of the shots rather than your box with holes?Recommended model NERF? all using the same gun or everyone brings their own hogleg? I like the idea of shooting at minis. They are definitely easier to hit as nerf missiles crab through the air. I chose hole targets because they don't have to be reset, and cannot be knocked over incidentally from a strike on the surface they are standing on etc. Some of my friends modify Nerf guns. You would be surprised at the velocity achieved with a modified Maverick revolver! I recommend the Maverick. I am going to acquire an N-strike as I think the ammo is faster and maybe fires straighter. You can use Buzz Bee products at your peril. They shoot, but the fellow with the derringer gun missed three easy targets from nearly point blank and it was all because of the gun he brought to the game. Rules are posted so give them a try. |

Really good idea and lots of fun. I just thought that a human profile with the holes cut in could be used. I might follow that idea up as an opening game for my new room which anyone can join in. |

DA, Actually on pinterest I have a lot of western gunfight gunslingers and deviant art pins that were to be printed out and glued to that box front. Time intervened and it couldn't be readied for the roll out of the game. I am going to go towards a steam punk, weird west sort of vibe for the target box. |

Surely the players should be shooting at each other? Isn't that the whole point of Nerf guns? |

Cool! I had a box load of similar weapons – actually shot nerf discs – and other 'weapons' of a harmless variety, like magnetic tipped darts, velcro wrapped balls and a dart board-like target. But I was 'targeting' a Davy Crocket – Mike Fink sort of game. Can certainly adapt to Old West, too. Now where is that box?! The only challenging part to such games is gathering the proper sort of gamer – you know, the ones who are quite happy to get silly and get in to the mood of the whole thing. Folks like me! Thanks for sharing. |
