Regular followers of my blog will know that I've set myself the task of painting up a French Heavy Cavalry Division of two Cuirassier Brigades with support this year.

First up is the lead squadron of 2nd Cuirasisers c.1812:

Created in 1635 from an Ordnance company of Cardinal Richelieu and named Cardinal-Duc, in 1643 they were renamed the Royale-Cavalerie, and in 1791 the 2eme Regiment de Cavalerie. Their name changed once again in 1802 when the Regiment became the 2eme Regiment de Cavalerie-Cuirassiers. Finally in 1803, they were renamed the 2eme Regiment de Cuirassiers.

In 1812 their colours carried battle honours for Austerlitz, Jéna, Eylau, Friedland, Eckmühl, and Wagram, and for the invasion of Russia they served under GdB Bessières as part of Saint. Germain's 1st Heavy Cavalry Division.

Very nice – First Empire cuirassiers have always been one of my favourite cavalry units

Trumpeters look such much better before Boney spoilt it all with the standard green imperial livery. Even for the Guard, the pale blue coat is bit "uniform"…..oh, but perhaps that is the ………

They are excellent, Janner--the time invested on researching your horse colours paid dividends in your painting! thumbs up

To be fair, Bryce, I'm at the stables nearly every day anyway. So there's a degree of concurrent activity. grin
