In remarks on Wednesday aboard the DeGaulle, French President Francois Hollande said that the terror attacks in Paris last week by Islamic extremists "justifies the presence of our aircraft carrier" in the Gulf.

"Thanks to the Charles de Gaulle we will have intelligence" from surveillance flights, Hollande said, and "we may also conduct operations in Iraq."…"

That's the problem with attacking a nation's civilians, it makes nations very likely to send some troops to express their displeasure…

Hmmm, sounds good in theory, though with all the jihadi cells they are rolling up in Europe today, might have been better to keep it near France, to defend the homeland.

Rumor has it they suspect there may be hundreds, or thousands of them lying in wait.

Naval aviation is NOT the preferred method for dealing with in-house terror threats. The French have all sorts of troops for that, between the regular Army, the Legion, the various police agencies, and the GIGN.

Naval aviation is wonderful for expressing your displeasure towards things like the training camps or the 'inciters' like al Baghdadi.
