Austrian Cuirassier 1790s?

Close enough, you win.
This will be universal doll for Austrian pre-1798 Chevaulegers, Dragoons and Cuirassieurs.
But Chevaulegers first.

I'll have set of those.

Will you be doing Dragoons with the cuirass and lobster-tail helmet from 1789, or the tall casquet style leather cap? Or will these have Bicornes?

Great! This is in 15mm? Are you planning on recreating your 6mm early Austrian fusilier in 15mm as well, or just doing select figures in both scales, or …?

Von Winterweldt can't participate because he supplies me with enourmos amount of researching materials about early Austrians and definitely can recognize the four times folded cloth under saddle on picture.

Eclipsing Binaries, I focused on Chevauleggers now and can't say anything about Dragoons modifications yet, except that (tri)bicornes will be definitely.

CATenWolde, until I can't do better and there are plenty of uncovered units, I don't sculpt units wich are already covered by Tony Barton. The only exceptions may be, if Tony's figures are not in 1:100 scale or covering will be as subproduct from my other sculpts. Like early Austrian Chevauleggers may be converted to Dragoons just by switching headgears.

Do you have a picture reference for the folded saddle cloth? I haven't seen that before.

I use the Osprey Austrian Army Books 1 & 2 and Napoleon's Campaigns in Italy, along with Philip Hawthornthwaite's "Uniforms of the French Revolutionary Wars" as reference, but can't see a saddle cloth like that.

Not saddle cloth or shabraque.. but simple grey cloth for upholstering.

Sho Boki is pulling all our legs, I wouldn't have recognized anything, my first shoot would have missed the traget by miles ;-).

The Chevaulegers did wear the Kaskett, similar to the infantry but with a higher front, all well shown in the 1767 illustrated regulation and as well as the so called Mollo 1798 black and white prints in the ASK Brown collection which show superb detail

Penultimate hint – this troopers wear sabretaches.

It may be a Lancer (or maybe Uhlan) of some sort then as I always thought sabertaches were worn only by light cavalry, if its not a hussar or a chasseur. Unless its an ADC?

I have no idea what lancer, but as you are also working on the Guard Cossacks could it be a Tchougouiev Cossack Ulhan? Or Volhynia Uhlan? I am just taking wild guesses now.

As my previous Towarczys are oversized for light cavalry (big 18mm), I start to sculpt new ones in correct 1:100 size.

I applaud such enthusiasm, and despite having the bigger Towarcys already, I will not resist buying a lot more in the 1 / 100 range.

Can we hope for a carabinier as well – firing his rifle?

This is possible, but wargaming figures first.

it is a wargaming figure, don't forget – skirmishing cavalry did exist and was used all the time

As skirmish markers – yes. Under wargaming figures I mean troopers – standing shoulder to shoulder, knee to knee. Even charging figures are only markers for me, as they are accurate only for small fraction of move.

On a positive note, I found loads of great reference pictures of Russian Cossack Lancers while scouring the internet trying to get the answer. Can I share them here to see if we can tempt Sho Boki into even more miniature greatness?

Is it not unusual to see lancers of this era carrying a sabretrache? But I guess this is not the Polish Uhlan look, that became almost universal……..

von Winterfeldt win. This is Krakusen regiment.. or as Napoleon says "My Pygmy Cavalry".

They have sheepskin saddle cover? On illustrations its seems to me as bear fur.

VonBlucher, they was my first figures for sale and first ones usually goes wrong. In this case too big. This mistake must be corrected.

I agree that they did not have sheepskin cover – for that reason I had to reflect hard what cavalry unit would be on a fur saddle cloth.

The Krakusen had plenty of variations as well, what kind do you sculpt?
