Does anybody knows if the plastic Victrix hoplites could be based on a frontage of 15mm? Depth would be 20mm.

I'm asking this because all my ancient Greeks are based like that (mostly Foundry, but also others), and I'm thinking of adding some more.

I don't own either, but I held enough Foundry figs to bet good money that Victrix is going to be bigger and that mounting on 15mm fronts to base might be possible but certainly crowded.

It would be pretty hard but if you are ok with crowding yes

I suspect your issue might be shields- the Victrix shields being wider than the small Foundry ones. It would be cosy!

The bases would have to be cut down and they would probably all have to be overarm wielding to avoid the right arm/hand/weapon fouling the shield of the hoplite to their right.

You might have to take slight liberties with the shield positioning too and getting a 2nd rank to mesh would test my patience at least. grin

Thanks for the help.

I think I'll pass on Victrix.
They look nice enough, a pity…

Then again you could get that phalanx close order overlap going….:-)

You could increase the depth to 30mm, and have them in 2-3 irregular ranks…

I was wondering about this so I asked Mr Google ("Victrix Hoplites 28mm") and there were a 'few' images. One of which looks suspiciously like Thebans on 15mm basing:

There was even one lot of Black Tree Hoplites on narrow basing.

So wonders never cease. Will take patience, ensure overhand spears are, as far as possible, in the front rank. One option is to give some of the chaps in the rear ranks swords rather than spears. Shields will add to the challenge!
