That is terrible news. I really enjoyed the conversations that I had with Jay. My condolences to his family. |

I am very sorry to hear that. Jay was a great guy. To say that he was a credit to the wargaming world is trifling, he was a credit to humanity. |
nnascati | 13 Jan 2015 2:12 p.m. PST |
That is a shame. I haven't seen him for years, but he was one of my first friends in the hobby. |
Stan Johansen | 13 Jan 2015 2:16 p.m. PST |
I am so sorry to hear this, I go way back to the early 70's with Jay. And remember his efforts to get the MFCA to back a Wargamers Convention. RIP Jay. Stan Johansen |

So sorry to learn of this. My prayers for Jay's family's. |

Jay was incredibly supportive of me over the years as a vendor and I always enjoyed seeing him at the shows. This is terrible news. My condolences to his family. |

Many of times he would come sit in the booth at the cons and just see how things were. It is sad to know that we have lost two great people in the industry in a few days. |

That's too bad. I hung out with him at a Philadelphia area con once back in the 80s. Nice guy. |

Sorry to hear this news. Jay was one who encouraged me with BrigadeGames when he was handling the dealer hall. |

Jay organized or helped to organize a LOT of East Coast cons back in the very early 80's and on up to the early 2000's. He served on the HMGS BoD and gave unstintingly of himself and his resources to help the fledgling organization to grow. Professionally, he was a fundraiser of some reputation and assisted many charitable groups and organizations to surpass their fund raising goals. A very talented painter, he never stinted at helping those of us with lesser or no skill at that art to improve our efforts. I'll miss him. |

I found out last night as well, working the Dealer Hall for Cold Wars. Jay helped me quite a bit in understanding how to balance vendor needs with the members and the overall organization. I will miss that support and I know HMGS (formally East) will miss this valuable member. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all of his friends and partners at Windsword as they deal with this loss. Fair Winds… |

I heard it was lymphoid leukemia Stage IV, but regardless, a good friend and fellow Legionnaire has passed and I will truly miss him. Bob, John, now Jay, the ranks of the Old Guard of the hobby certainly seem to be thinning. Yet when I remember these gents for some reason the legendary phrase "the Guard may die, but never surrender" seems so appropriate. En avant, mes braves, en avant! Colonel Bill ageofeagles.com |

I served with Jay on the BoD and he became a good friend. He had a keen insight into the hobby and as Ed pointed out was a exceptional painter. I remember seeing him last at Cold Wars 14 I think. I am shocked and saddened by this news. God rest his soul. db |

This is too bad! I went to a painting seminar offered by him where I learned a quick way to paint eyes, way back in the day. A talented artist, one of the best in my opinion. My condolences to his family and friends. |

I mm also very saddened by the news of Jay's passing – I have been attending conventions organized by Jay back to MFCA events circa 1970! He gave a lot to our hobby over the past 40+ years! |

My condolences to Jay's family in their time of sorrow and reflection. Very sad to hear the news. He helped me get our company into the East Coast cons back in 2000. He always treated me fairly and took the time to speak with me every time he saw me over the years. Rest in Peace Jay…. |

A great loss to all of us in the hobby. My thoughts are with his dear ones, and we'll miss him. But, with any luck, we'll lift a drink and roll the dice at Fiddlers' Green. RIP Jay. |

I knew Jay since 1968 when we first met in the first of several IWG's. Good gamer, great guy. Met in person in 1970 and a good friend ever since. Jay was instrumental in the development of the HMGS and the organizing of conventions. There are greats like Feathersone and Grant which formed the hobby, but so did Jay, in the highly practical and necessary organizational sphere of the con and the promotion of the hobby. Without Jay we'd all still be meeting in VFW halls and church basements for cons. Jay at times was a wheeler-dealer and a sharpie, but you need a guy like that to make a bunch of prima-donas like wargamers to work together. You need a P.T. Barnum to make the show. That was Jay's great talent and he got a lot of people to work together and play nice. That's a staggeringly rare virtue. Personally to the individual, he was always helpful and wonderful. |

I just found out yesterday, yeah November 13th, 2015. Because of all the traveling I do for my job I have missed the last 4 HMGS conventions and catching up with Jay. Needless to say, I am shocked and saddened by his passing. RIP, Jay. You were always there for HMGS and here on TMP. |
