Here are some highlights from the Lost City scenario we played recently. This 6-turn scenario appears in our 'Perilous Island' campaign book for Pulp Alley. It can be quite difficult and players are actually encouraged to cooperate. The goal is simply to enter the Lost City, but first they must activate three altars (in the same turn) and avoid the giant death-dealing guardian….
On one side we have Minerva and her hirelings. And in the other corner, Captain Wolf and his crew.
Turn 1, Minerva and Bosun find two of the altars, but Wolf is not so lucky.
And the Golden Guardian awakes from a century long slumber….
Turn 2, Minerva's superstitious native allies watch from a safe distance as she prepares the Ritual of Opening.
Wolf finally locates the third altar, "Damn, we're only going to have one chance at this!"
Weird fire flashes from the eyes of the ancient sentinel and a native falls to the ground writhing in fiery agony.
Turn 3, Minerva, Bosun and Wolf perform the ritual (on the first try!) and the ancient portal opens.
It won't stay open for long (3 turns)!
Wolf's men rush towards the gate and the Guardian turns one into a smoking pile of ashes.
Turn 4, both forces move forward, attacking but failing to penetrate the monster's metal skin.
The Guardian rushes forward and somehow the native survives its deadly attack.
Turn 5, Now that the guardian in no longer blocking the gate, Wolf calls out to his crew, "Through the gate, lads! Run for it!"
Cursing Wolf for a coward, Minerva and her natives fight their way towards the gate. "We're running out of time!" she shouts.
Turn 6, Minerva escapes through the gate before it slams shut leaving one native on the other side, his screams echoing through the jungle.
This was a really fun scenario. Wolf proved to be a "Lucky Devil" once again and only lost one follower. Minerva on the other hand, lost half of her league getting through the gate, but she'll get her revenge on Wolf!
