Hi Guys,

I'm struggling with what shade blue to pick for Prussian artillery. Nothing really jumps out at me so I'm not sure were to start for mixing. Any suggestions for Vallejo users?

I start with a black primer. Then Vallejo's Prussian Blue 965 (not Dark Prussian Blue). A simple drybrushing with Vallejo's Grey Blue (943) and that's it.
You can check the results at my blog "mosqueteypincel" (the photos are not really good, but you get the idea).

I second joaquin99's color choice.
Same base, Vallejo Prussian Blue, then a dry brush of medium blue, it makes them brighter.

In the picture below I was trying for a metal wheel look, but have since finishing the bases gone for a muddy brown.

Whilst we are on it, some questions on colours:

Limber horses traces etc – black or raw/tan leather?

Train drivers' plumes (1806) – white? or black/white?

Crew equipment (ie ramrods etc) – blue (as above) or raw wood (I have seen references to unpainted wood)

Crew bags etc – black, or canvas – mine have cartridge boxes on right hip, and what I take to be "bread bags" on left hip (sorry, 1806 if it makes a difference)

All and any help much appreciated – on a google images search I have not found much of any use to narrow these tiny details down. Many thanks.

Marc

This picture from the Calpe Website has horse furniture black.
Also ramrods etc are black, I painted mine blue….artistic license.

Sorry no help for the plumes.

Crew bags would be the same as infantry. Various discussions on this have been on TMP.
Linen or canvas bag, off white, white, yellow or pale grey.
I painted mine base of pale grey with white highlight.
I like brighter colors on the table, tough with the Prussians.
