I know that the following companies make 28mm Sohei: Old Glory 25s, Perry Brothers, Kingsford Miniatures, The Assault Group; 1st Corps.

Are there any others out there that I've missed?

I'm tempted to put together a Sohei army for SAGA, so I need a wide variety of figures.

Thanks.

You can buy my figures from Warpath or Brigade Games in the USA.

Robert now you are right up my alley. My Sohei army has all that you have mentioned. Kingsford is taller than all the rest. Old Glory has some unique poses that mix very well. 1st Corps. are the only ones that have figures with swords. Tag has the most extensive with naginata, archers and mounted. The only ones that I have that you don't have listed are Battleline out of Australia. TIG

Robert Burke12 Jan 2015 11:20 a.m. PST

Unfortunately, Battleline doesn't have any pictures of their Sohei on their website. How do they look compared to the others?

tigrifsgt12 Jan 2015 1:13 p.m. PST

I got three and only one turned out to be a Sohei. The others were fantasy and Chinese. The warrior monk looks really good, a figure with the naginata behind his back. Its been a while, you will probably have to contact them to see which one it is. I went and looked at my army, and I think that you have all the bases covered on all of the Sohei out there. Good luck with your Sohei, they were my first 28mm army.

Schogun12 Jan 2015 3:08 p.m. PST

@tigrifsgt -- how do Battleline figs match up size-wise with your OG, 1st Corps and TAG figs?

Thanks

tigrifsgt12 Jan 2015 3:16 p.m. PST

They are a good match, the only ones that don't fit really well are the Kingsford. They are much taller. They are great figures, but you just have to watch what you put them next to. There are some slotta Sohei out there, I just don't do slotta as a personal preference. Also, the majority of my Sohei are hooded, this would not be historically correct, I just think that they look better.

Robert Burke12 Jan 2015 3:18 p.m. PST

Which Sohei are not hooded? I also prefer not to use slotted bases. Are there any Sohei on slotted bases (I want to know what not to order)?

Thanks.

tigrifsgt12 Jan 2015 5:11 p.m. PST

Old age getting to me. I don't remember which are slotted. Old Glory, Perry. TAG, Battleline, and Kingsford are not slotted. Don't know about Northstar. Most of them have a mix of hooded and not hooded in the packs. I don't think I would want all of one or the other. Before it comes up: Colors for robes can be black, white, tan, yellow, or orange. The color significance has been lost to history. I used a couple different shades of yellow and orange, black and charcoal, and tan. For the hoods I used white, vanilla, and cream. I think my army is almost 100, so it was good to mix up the colors.

cwlinsj12 Jan 2015 5:24 p.m. PST

What? No love for Dixon's line of warrior monks? Almost all are bare-headed and never slotted… as long as you can put up with the pumpkin heads and fireplug bodies!

setsuko12 Jan 2015 10:14 p.m. PST

The Kensei range from zenit miniatures has hooded monks as well.

Robert Burke13 Jan 2015 11:46 a.m. PST

Are the Zenit Miniatures on slotted bases? It's hard to tell from the website. Also, how tall are they? TMP says that they make 33mm figures.

tigrifsgt13 Jan 2015 12:30 p.m. PST

Others have said that the Kensei range is at least 32,but they are great looking figures. And, I never liked the way that Dixon figures looked.

Robert Burke13 Jan 2015 12:38 p.m. PST

I'm not crazy about the Dixon 25mm figures either. So far, I'm leaning towards the Museum Miniatures Ashigaru with arquebusses. Although I wish I could buy Old Glory 25s in bags smaller than 30 figures.

For the Sohei, I like The Assault Group figures. But the Kingsford Mounted Sohei would make a great leader.

And of course, Perry makes the only Sohei with arquebusses that I've been able to find. Actually, I like the Perry figures a lot but I need units of 8 (for SAGA) and they come in packs of 6.

I wish they would sell their cavalry in packs of 4 and their infantry in packs of 4 or 8. It would make it a lot easier to build the units I need.

tigrifsgt13 Jan 2015 5:10 p.m. PST

Robert: Give me a couple of days to take a look. I think that I have five or six OG monks in a bag that I didn't paint.

Robert Burke13 Jan 2015 5:53 p.m. PST

I have 9 of the OG Sohei. I like them a lot.

tigrifsgt14 Jan 2015 4:44 p.m. PST

So I guess you won't be needing mine. Good luck on this project, it will be fun. Also, on the painting. Necklaces are wood beads with red tassels, waist sashes are light blue. Also, armor has light blue lacing, another item whose meaning has been lost to history. Again, good luck. TIG

Robert Burke14 Jan 2015 6:05 p.m. PST

Tigrifsgt-I would like to know what you have available. I'm thinking of putting together a Sohei warband for SAGA and I need a lot more OG monks for it. Thanks.

Borathan14 Jan 2015 9:38 p.m. PST

There's the ones from the Kensei range

Robert Burke14 Jan 2015 9:40 p.m. PST

The Kensei (Zenit) figures are 33mm tall. From what I've been told they don't mix well with 28s.

setsuko14 Jan 2015 10:56 p.m. PST

I have some Kensei miniatures. They are large, about the same height as Steel Fist, but I don't have a problem with mixing larger and smaller minis, especially if they are not ranked up next to each other. Some people are a bit more strict when it comes to matching sizes, but hey, it's not lik people don't come in different sizes.

tigrifsgt15 Jan 2015 8:44 a.m. PST

Robert. I have three naginata poses along with the figures that have the hammer and the axe. I liked the hammer and axe figures because they were different. Just like the 1st corps monks with the swords.

Robert Burke15 Jan 2015 8:56 a.m. PST

Tigrifsgt-do you have any OG or 1st Corps figures you would like to sell? If so, please contact me directly at Burker1 (at) aol (dot) com. Thanks.

Borathan15 Jan 2015 12:58 p.m. PST

@Robert Burke

While I don't currently have any of their Sohei, my Ronin buntais includes a few of their others (The female Kuge heroine and the Onna Bushi) and they match up pretty well with other lines from what I've seen. My main one has old Clan War, a Bushido, and one from Bombshell, and the other force uses the Sohei list for a naginata wielding force with the Kensei ones, they don't look that far apart. Nor do they really look that off from other lines that some friends use such as the Wargames Factory stuff and others…

Even then, you still have a natural variation of size as long as they look similar.

tigrifsgt16 Jan 2015 10:30 a.m. PST

Robert, not for sale but I'm sure that we can find something that we can trade. I don't do paypal, and money deals by mail is iffy. I'll be getting with you. I have the OG but no 1st Corps. What do you do in plastic, as that is what I'm working on currently? (FF,GB,CG) TIG

Robert Burke16 Jan 2015 10:57 a.m. PST

I'm afraid that all I have in plastic are 1/72 Napoleonics (painted and unpainted). But please contact me directly if you are interested in them.

tigrifsgt17 Jan 2015 2:04 p.m. PST

Robert, we'll figure something out as to some kind of trade. I'll e-mail you after the weekend. TIG

The Tabletop Game of Teppo is recreating Oda Nobunaga's Wars against the various Warrior Monks factions.Legendary Battles in the Sengoku Period are not the sole preserve of the digital world. With the release of 16 different poses of Warrior Monk, and using MDF kits from TRE Games to recreate their strongholds, there are always enough Ikko-Ikki to provide an opponent for Nobunaga's forces
