March to Helm's Deep. Leave none alive. To war!

So I just finished 10 more units! This time its Isengard Uruk-Hai orcs, to join forces with my existing Mordor orcs. Again, these are copplestone minis.

picture

5 regiments of Uruk spears, 3 regiments of Uruk swords, 2 of bows, 2 warg riders units, and 3 command stands
Individually they amount to 150 uruk spears, 90 swords, 48 archers, 24 warg riders, an orc foot general, drummer, champion, orc mounted general, and Saruman himself.

Whom do you serve? SAARRUUUMMAAAAAAANNNNN!

In the next day or two, I will take some pics of all my orcs, both Mordor and Isengard combined. On the painting table is the Riders of Rohan and the "Rohan" Total Battle buildings! After that, Gondorian infantry, Warmaster high elves to use as Elrond and the forces of Imladris. Even further out, are 8 units of warmaster dwarves to use as iron hills dwarves. Then, finally, I will work on painting the Battle of 5 Armies box and its contents…

Oh, Ive also put an order for Warmonger pikes and zweihanders, ebayed a pack of Warmaster Empire heroes. Maybe they arent Middle-Earthian, but I will use them for normal Warmaster games.

I thought that Middle Earth Orcs were more brown than green.

Nicely painted all the same.

That's a lot of Uruks. Nice

The skin colour of Tolkien's orcs has been thoroughly discussed elsewhere. Eg tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Orcs

Green appears to be valid including khaki but more rarely pale green eg lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Orcs

At 10mm, I need to see the difference between units more easily and quickly from a distance. So I try to use strong color combinations that might not be canonical.

Nice. I like your creativity. Your Saruman and orcs rock. BTW, if you are looking for a Helm's Deep style castle:

That's what I love about 10mm – a real feeling of massed bodies of troops. Nice!

A dip maybe?

They dont match Jackson's vision of ME,but that's hardly a point of contention.Make them as green as you want, theyre your figures.

Great looking units thanks for the eye candy only problem is its reminds me of all the unpainted units I've yet to finish but looking at these and the others you've posted has given me a kick start to get some more painting done…

I painted some of those Warmonger pikes and zweihanders recently for my 10mm empire army.

Did you hand paint all of the white hands, or did you find a better way to do it?

Mars Miniatures12 Jan 2015 8:32 a.m. PST

Thanks everyone!

Toshach,
Ive had your site bookmarked for months when I first planned on going 10mm LOTR. I even considered using your shield designs, but decided to free hand, just so I feel more involved with my little soldiers.

Twilight Samurai,
No dipping here. Ink washes and drybrushing for me.

doublesix66,
I started the blog to get and stay motivated and focused on painting and not letting the lead pile up.

Id be Ugly if I wasnt Ugluk,
Thats alot of minis you got there!

Shadyt,
I did consider making a stamp with clay or a stencil. Instead I laughed at the sky and decided to freehand everything. After the first 20 or so, you get a good rhythm of how to do it. Eyes of Mordor are way easier than Hands of Isengard.

Nicely done indeed. When my eyesight finally gets back to where it's supposed to be, I'm tackling my own array of Copplestone Half-orcs (which are terrific).

(And I've got Toshach's not-Helm's Deep keep. Great bit of terrain, and not that hard to build.)

Inspirational work!
