So it looks like some roads I ordered 6 weeks ago might not make it before the time I will need the. So maybe I should do what i should have done before and make my own.

I am looking to make 6mm 2 lane highway roads for a modern/scifi game. I was thinking Stiff felt, maybe airbrush with some lane markings.

What are peoples thoughts on size of the road? I will be using bases for my vehicles. Does anyone have some pointers/links to get me started?

thanks as always.

I've seen some beautiful felt ones, for either 15mm, or 1/72nd scale gaming. The latter, I think.

They guy bought some light gray felt, cut to size, and then sprayed the pieces with white paint. It looked superb, since the obviously used nice templates to assist in the process.

For 6mm, that might be too thick.

Sandpaper would be better, scalewise, but then you'd need to glue it down to a backing first, to keep it flat, so, it'd probably end up as thick as felt, anyway.

So, take your pick.

For something quick and cheap, I cut up some fine grain sandpaper into strips:

Black masking tape. I used it for my 3mm 6Day War scenario at Fall In. Workers great. Cheap. They have it at Heart's on your way home.

Check out the various Cold War blogs.

There's one out there, can't recall which, that looks as good as printed roads from a major retailer. That's the guy that made his from felt.

The roads have center striping, as well as solid white edge striping too. Pretty sure it's 1/72 scale.

Found it:

His battles look stunning.

I certainly hope to produce something similar.

I've got some instructions here as well for tarmac roads. 6mm.wargaming.info/page353.shtml

I use the same plastic for dirt roads but use Caulk for the dirt roads (see the terrain board for pictures and ideas)

Cheers

Guys,

Thanks for the great suggestions. I like them all, for different reasons.

I'll let you know what I end up doing.
