You may want to spell the word American properly. |

Apparently not if you question why I mentioned it. How would you like it if I misspelled the country you are from? Would you think it is okay? And especially since the link he has here has it spelled correctly. |

Lol ! Yes, Tango is an Argentine, English is his 2d Language, IIRC, so he does pretty well, IMO … I've got some stalker on TMP named, Henry Martini who likes to Snipe at my spelling and typos. That occurs in my haste in typing with my Ogryn sized fingers ! Of course with English being my 1st language [with Klingon my 2d … Quapla' !], Henry must be a frustrated English teacher, [IIRC he's from Oz ?]. Or just likes to be a minor annoyance. Like a fruit fly or mosquito … I don't think he likes my politics or "HooRah!" Military attitude, etc. or whatever … So he revels in being a nitpicky git sniping at my posting. Since if after reading my posts all he gets out of it is my spelling typos, etc. … who knew !? Snipe way !

A votre service mon ami! (smile) By the way, english is not my second language, it's my four one. (smile) Good for Dico who never made a mistake when he write here! Amicalement Armand |

Armand, I always read over what I am about to post before submitting. You may want to try it some time. |

I'm with Disco Joe on this. If the posting isn't worth you looking it over to correct errors first, why should strangers take the time to read it? That said, thanks for the link. The subject of the movie had a sad, pointless death. |
Legion 4 | 04 Jan 2015 8:18 a.m. PST |
Good point … but I do look my posts over before posting … but yet … sometimes I miss a typo or omitted word, etc. that's a problem being human, I guess … I'll have to hire an editor so as not to offend the more literate here on TMP … By the way, english is not my second language, it's my four one. (smile) Well see there you nitpicky gits … it's easy to make a mistake with 4 languages to chose from … I may just start adding Klingon words and phrases in my posts from now on ! bIjatlh 'e' yImev ! HoS II' Dalo'Ha'chu' !

Armand, I always read over what I am about to post before submitting. You may want to try it some time. Which only works if you're utterly fluent in the language you're posting in. Some of Armand's usage errors look like either German or Spanish grammar. |
Disco Joe | 04 Jan 2015 1:51 p.m. PST |
That is a valid point but how many ways is there to spell American? Especially when the country that you live in is part of South America. |
Tango01 | 04 Jan 2015 3:52 p.m. PST |
With so many thousands threads and so few with some typo mistake… I consider this is not a big problem. Have to see you Disco writting in other language forum for a long time and then give you reason… or not… (smile) Think this issue even worth the time to answer… Amicalement Armand |
Disco Joe | 04 Jan 2015 4:28 p.m. PST |
Armand, maybe instead of posting so many thousand threads if you are referring to your threads that is how about cutting back on quantity and spend alittle time on correctness…..at least on blatant errors like this one. |

No sniping; just return fire: 'E' is not adjacent to 'A' on the computer keyboard. You consistently use 'then' in place of 'than'; (as an adult literacy tutor my pedagogic urges are fully satisfied, thank you). I can't speak for others, but I tend not to assign much weight to views couched in poorly constructed English. In my experience there's invariably a high correlation between the lucidity of a commentator's written expression and the quality of the ideas being expressed. 'A Nitpicking Git' |

@Henry: While I generally agree with your sentiment, I will always give some slack to someone attempting to communicate in a foreign language. You really don't want to see the crimes against the language I perpetrate when I write in Japanese… |

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (I don't often pick "nits"… usually pick my noose…er, nose!) MY first language is Brooklynese, and I'll be DAMNED if I can find an English/Brooklyn dictionary that's worth a… Do carry on… p.s. Thanks for the link Armand! Your English is light years better then, excuse me, better THAN my Spanish (or German or Russian for that matter!) Chaz |

Dear Tango01 I know far, far too many people who were born here and lived her all their life who "murdilize" the spelling and grammar of English, even the American dialect. Besides it's obviously a typo. Embarrassing in a title, but not the end of the world. I've done it myself. I do think Henry Martini was dawghoused unjustly and unfairly. I don't think it's that serious. Peevish, cranky, but not dawghouseable. |

Viva Tango! Not so sure about going to see the movie. I don't like going to theatres. I'll almost certainly see it when it's released on video. Thanks for the heads up, Tango. Oh, and I understand your English much better than you would understand my Spanish. Then there's that typing thing… |

I can see all the angles on this one. I make spelling mistakes on posts and I write for a living (well, part of it, anyway…). One thing I learned early on is that the part of any written piece that gets the most typos are the titles – part of the way the brain works – kind of "Title: yep, I've already read that and know what it says – now onto the body copy…"). Titles need special care. For example, on a post on TMP the other day – in the heading, of course – I spelt ‘National' wrong… how dumb is that? On the flip side, yeah, I wish Tango would look a little more carefully at what he posts (especially after he's posted it) and at other people's threads first, before he replicates them: the sheer ‘repeat occurrence' he achieves must be allied to the number of posts he makes, surely? So the advice to spend a little more time, Tango, is probably relevant. IMHO. But, having said that, your English is way better than some who do speak it ‘like a native' so no complaints there. Miss-spelling of ‘American' is about as irritating as people saying ‘English' (ie the "major surface combatants for England, France, Germany, etc." in a post recently TMP link when they mean British.** Ya don't see me banging on about that one do ya? Oh hang on… mea culpa* :) PS – I will probably watch the film :) John T * If you excuse my Klingon, L4 :) ** So – every one on the far side of the pond – repeat after me ten times: for pretty much the last couple of hundred years, when discussing military and major political matters (but – sadly – not football) – British not English |
