Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes 25/28mm tents suitable for use with Arabs, Persians, or Ottoman Turks? Thanks. |

For what period? Sketches from the last Seige of Vienna show small conical tents externally very similar to Sibley and other bell tents but about half the size of the 19th Century examples for the common soldiers. The higher ups had a variety of wall tents from modest to huge, so again ACW officer's wall tents could be pressed into service, possibly with a fancy paint job. There were also special tents for audiences and parades, again, similar in shape to 'Baker' tents but about three times the size and with LOTS of fancy work inside and out, one side with a shade up so everything was on show. As for 'Arabs', they seem to have used the 'black tent' – actually everything from black thru dark blue, darkest in the middle and more faded towards the edges as new cloth was added in the middle and the old cloth made it's way outwards. The same shape was also used by the Tibetans although the interior was different. I only know of 15mm resin tents in this form, but you could look for paper cutout models which could be resized. For Persians you could use both Medieval European pavilions with a suitable paint job for the settled people and yurts either plain or decorated for the nomadic herders. They also used flat 'sun shades' with 4 corner poles and no sides. An online or library search for Persian, Mughal and Turkish miniature painting should give you enough painting references for commanders tents, the troops would have much plainer tentage, probably off white with coloured seam decoration and a few curliques. |

I would prefer an Ottoman tent (for a pasha or some other commander) but I'd be willing to settle for almost anything in 25/28mm. I just can't find anything in that scale. |

I don't know if they are still available but Miniature Building Authority once made Arab tents in 28mm. |

There's at least one company that sell them: "Adrian's Walls" in the UK. Here's a pic of their "Saladin Campaign Tent" priced at 65 GBP…
Here's the more modest "Merchant's Tent" priced at 22.50 GBP…
Here's a link to their "28mm Holy Land to Asia" catalogue page… link I'm pretty sure there's at least one other company that makes a "Bedouin Tent" in 25mm or 28mm but unfortunately I can't remember who it is right now. EDIT: Acheson Creations "Bedouin Tent" priced at $10 USD US…

Yeah, but they're still all packed away from the move. Better than felt is drapes samples. They have about the right texture to look like canvas on the table. The basic procedure is: (1) build a cardboard frame for the shape (2) cut some panels to fit the frame' (3) soak the panels in slightly watered down PVA (4) put some glue on the top of the frame (5) place panels on frame and let dry (6) prime the tents with an earthy color (7) paint/drybrush (8) seal The watered down PVA on the panels is the key. First, it makes the pieces of curtain sample soggy, which lets them hang and drape in a realistic manner. When it dries, it stiffens them up in their final position. After prime, paint, highlight, and seal, they come out pretty sturdy. Also, they're hollow underneath, so you can put figures in them, just like a real tent. |

I would prefer an Ottoman tent (for a pasha or some other commander) … Combinations of tent and sunshade are shown in Ottoman art: Suleiman gives back the Holy Crown to Szapolyai, from the Süleymanname Execution of Prisoners, Belgrade, from the Süleymanname Suleiman the Magnificent receives a Persian Ambassador, by Matrakci Nasuh, from the Süleymanname Suleyman the Magnificient giving audience, from the Süleymanname includes what may be umbrellas. Others: Open sided tents in Khusrau and Shirin, 1498–99AD Tents at the Siege of Belgrade, 1456, from the Hünernâme of 1588 by Lokman Tents at the Siege of Szigetvár, 1566, from the Hünernâme of 1588 by Lokman Lala Mustafa Pasha in a camp of tents after his Victory at Kars, 1578, from the Nusretname by Gelibolulu Mustafa Ali, 1582 Tents in 'The Ottoman Army at Tiflis', 1578, from the Nusretname by Gelibolulu Mustafa Ali, 1582 Druzhina Ottoman Illustrations of Costume & Soldiers |

There is a company in the UK making tents. Their 15mm range is more extensive, but have a number of 28mm available and more in development. link |
