What are your gaming plans for 2015?

What projects do you hope to start or complete in the coming year?

Since different parts of the world will commemorate various anniversaries in 2015, I have spread this topic around the globe.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2015.

Cyrus the Great31 Dec 2014 11:06 a.m. PST

47Ronin31 Dec 2014 11:51 a.m. PST

FYI, I had planned to cross-post this topic to my fellow gamers in Australia, Britain and Canada to see what their plans are for 2015. (You have many of the great anniversaries--Waterloo, Gallipoli--coming up.) However, since I started the topic on the American Wargaming board (instead of the Conventions and Wargame Shows board), those other regional boards did not "pop up" for cross-posting purposes. Now I'll know for next time.

No matter. I think we will get a variety of responses.

BTW, you really have to love TMP. A great resource for which we can all be grateful.

I have quite a few bits and pieces left over from 2014 but after that I'm not sure which waiting projects will get traction … Napoleonics (soft plastic 20mm), Franco-Prussian War (10mm) … Samurai (25mm) … WWII naval (1/1200) … anglo-Zulu War (6mm) … the Xerxes/Plataea project (30mm flats)… they do all have good claims to make on my time …

I am currently painting 15mm Landsknechts for Usk but they will have to be done in a few weeks so I think some battleships would be a good idea …

1: Finish painting the rest of my 10mm German armor for my Barbarossa campaign.

2: Finish my solo-play rules adaptation for a game system I enjoy but have no one to play with.

3: Create some campaign rules for Barbarossa.

4: Play my solo Barbarossa campaign with my new self made solo rules using the game system I enjoy.

Perhaps not the most ambitious of goals, but at least it's focused. ;)

PS: I'd like to second 47Ronin. Lets all thank the folks who keep TMP running. Thank you, and Happy New Year all!

Finish off my assorted French Napoleonics

Once that is all done maybe try and do some WW2 20mm vehicles I've been accumulating.

Timmo uk01 Jan 2015 11:51 a.m. PST

The main change this year is to shift away from endless hours of painting.

All I really want to commit to is:

• adding about 50 AB Portuguese infantry to my 18mm Napoleonic project and making a few small buildings

• finishing a few Perry 28mm metal Sudan conversions

• continuing with my very enjoyable 1/144 WW1 planes – repaints and decals

• anything else small and manageable that I feel like doing as the year progresses.

Early morning writer01 Jan 2015 12:19 p.m. PST

My miniatures plan for 2015, sacrilege to some of you, is to avoid miniatures as much as possible without entirely eliminating them from my life. This is not because I don't have lots to work on miniatures wise; I have enough to make any and all gamers heads spin. But I've been allowing my other modeling hobby to languish too far in the background for too long and I WILL reverse that this year.

For 2015, my modeling priority is my N scale train layout that's been in various stages of advance and neglect, too much neglect, for a bit over a decade now. All those other non-modeling distractions are either resolved or background now so I can focus on my first priority. And when I need a break from model railroad work and want some other modeling project, I can turn to the miniatures for a bit.

I do, however, hope to participate in games with friends over the course of the year – but I'll be letting others do the heavy lifting this year. Unless it involves my railroad, then I'll be the main provider of effort.

A hoped for side benefit of this year of benign neglect is that by the end of the year it will be easier to part company with a variety of things on the miniature front that are just excessive, obscenely excessive.

Such is the goal, we'll see how it goes.

coolyork05 Jan 2015 4:55 p.m. PST

4) Keep working on the never ending additions to my AWI forces ie France and Spain .

I started this topic almost six months ago. Time for an update.

With almost half the year in the books, how is everyone doing with their 2015 projects?

Are you celebrating your victories or cursing your defeats?

TheKing3006 May 2015 5:42 a.m. PST

Ok –

Painting ACW (28mm) for a large Black Power Game with The Usual Suspects. So far I'm on track.

Painting British for Muskets and Tomahawks. SO far almost nothing.

Maybe doing something for 40K (very slight chance). Maybe a unit or two of Necrons?

Saga – nothing completed. That's a crushing blow. Darn!!

Bolt Action – nothing on that front as well.

Oh, man -- I could swear I had commented on this post months ago, but it appears I must have confused it with a similar post from the year before! The more things change, the more they stay the same, hobby-wise -- but not for much longer, at least in my case!!! I swear that before this year is over I will complete my terrain layout for the 1879 Second Afghan War battle of Charasiab, which I've been working on for the PAST THREE F*%$#ING YEARS. Arghhh. Honestly I did not realize at the start that it would be such a mammoth undertaking. I hope to have it all done in time for Colonial Barracks V in New Orleans in early November. I think I have a good shot, but wish me luck as I can use all the help I can get!

TheKing3009 May 2015 6:13 a.m. PST

2. Stingray/Thunderbirds/Gerry Anderson series/etc undersea campaign (with a worshipful nod to John and the Warlords)
3. Whatever crosses my attention span and diverts me from #1 or #2.

Zhodani company: Done as of January (and appeared at DunDraCon in February), except for the gcarriers, which need to be painted. They are made from plastic soap dishes with buttons and other bits glued on.

Imperial Marines platoon: Done as of January (and appeared at DunDraCon in February), but I want to do another dry-brushing to improve contrast, and maybe repaint some weapons to make them easier to identify. (I try to make each type of weapon a different color for ease of reference to the weapons table.)

Martian squad: Not started, but would like get it done in time for CelestiCon (early September).

Schutztruppe Mars platoon: Started; would like to get it done for CelestiCon.

Adventurers on Mars (about 10 figures): Started; would like to get it done for CelestiCon.

Martian terrain: Done.

Brown table mat: Done as of March; ready for Mars (and other places). (This is a synthetic painter's drop cloth, washed and hung to dry to remove the creases and create natural wrinkles, then spray-painted with rust-colored primer.)

Gray table mat: Done. (Same painter's drop cloth.)

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2015 6:20 p.m. PST

I have to add:

Pinnace: Primed but not painted. I think this is a GI Joe toy from a yard sale. It has wings, so I called it a pinnace (the Traveller pinnace is the only winged small craft). I think that I'm giving this one to the Zhodani, and will give it black, gray, and brown camouflage.

3 other small craft: Primed but not painted. The hulls of two of these are Dove product containers, like shampoo and conditioner. The other is a plastic container for sunscreen. All have various buttons and other objects added for turrets, weapons, landing gear, etc. I think the Dove containers become Imperial vehicles, but I haven't decided on a color. The sunscreen container then goes to the Zhodani, with the same color scheme.

Wow, funny you should mention this.. I recently put some serious thought about "what to do next".. and posted the results here: link

More material for the Magi (54mm magical dueling game based on Waving Hands): new cards, new magic users, NPCs, Mirrors, Smoke, etc.

ALL Quiet on the Martian Front. A great new game I've bought into heavily

Halfway through the year, everything listed has been scrapped. Okay, mothballed sounds better.

With a local con in the fall I need to wrap up my biggest month of painting in over a year (random stuff) and focus on what's needs to be done.

1 – Finish up the pile of lead on the left (work) side of my bench by the end of July. (Misc fantasy, Spanish-American, and WWI Africa)
2 – Finish up the the Battlemechs I own (6 out of 26 have been painted) before a Labor Day game.
3 – Finish six Gnome Wars units for a kid's game at the local con.
4 – Paint up vehicles for Treasure hunt game at same con.
5 – Slightly organize and paint the mess of lead on the right side of the workbench.

Good luck, Viscount Eric.

We'll be thinking of you during the Gnome games at Historicon.
