I just stumbled across some footage from a 2012 Chinese-made movie called "The Sino-Japanese War at Sea 1894". Admittedly, the date puts it slightly outside the range for this discussion board, but I figure anyone who would find it interesting will visit here eventually.

Aside from the fact that the production values are about on a par with low-budget 1970s American action films, there is one interesting battle sequence with some pretty good model work (filmed on a lake in Inner Mongolia, if Wikipedia is to be believed), starting at 13:15 and running to about the 20 minute mark of the 25-minute-plus excerpt:

While it's not even in the same league as the jaw-dropping CGI in the Tsushima scene from "Saka no Ue no Kumo" (which I never tire of watching, in spite of the cheesy soundtrack) it's still interesting.

I generally don't do naval gaming but …. Chinese kit maker Bronco do 1/350th scale models of four of the Chinese ships (I have three set aside). Zvezda do 1/350th scale Imperial Russian ships (yes, I have unbuilt kits of these as well), for the Russo-Japanese war. Must get some appropriate IJN ships.

Have a great day, FPR

I had seen this film put up on YT and then takern down again promptly before; seems there were the usual copyright issues. It would be grand to have English subt'd version.
The only thing that distracted me from the enjoyment during the excellent rendition of the Battle of Pungdo/Asan was the use of Yoshino to overhaul and sink the Kowshing, rather than the historically-apt Naniwa. Still massive fun.
