So we managed to get together for our third game of Victory without Quarter. Same dynamics, 8 players, 3 of which had never even seen the rules and 2 that had read a copy beforehand. Each player ran a brigade of 4 regiments. I ran the card deck. Very enjoyable game, which reached a satisfying conclusion in just 3 hours. The easy learning curve and fun of this set of rules is attracting new players to the period. We've already had 2 gamers buy some Warlord plastics just so that they could have their own brigades. |

D6 Junkie – Any other feedbackon the rules, pics and any insights for game play? Tom – Good to hear you're still kicking around. I think you have more of a Hal Holbruck look from the movie "Midway". P. |

Hey Redmist, The only changes we've made are 1)to add a second end of turn card, both have to come up for the turn to end 2)at the beginning of the game we use 'brigade' cards instead of unit cards for activation. We switch to the regular deck when contact is about to happen. mikeopolis.blogspot.com |

Would like to see this set finally published. Have, and enjoy, many rule sets for the period, but this one really takes the prize. The simplicity, without feeling generic, combined with the low figure count needed to make an enjoyable game are big pluses. |

Thank you, yes, have the free set, but these are still beta rules, not much needs to be added, but it woukd be nice to see a published set so author can get a little coin for his efforts. |

D6 Junkie, I like the idea of the brigade cards first then switching to the unit cards once combat starts – make for faster play. I've heard of the two end-card deal before in other card-based games, that mechanism seems to work well. Thank you for sharing. P. |

Thank you, yes, have the free set, but these are still beta rules, Beta? Where does the author say they are beta? These rules have been available since May 2006 and have not (AFAIK) changed since then. not much needs to be added, What needs to be added? but it would be nice to see a published set so the author can get a little coin for his efforts. Many rules authors choose not to "publish" a paid-for version: link Actually, if you take a look at the author's blog, you will find that he has published other rules sets with Barry Hilton, including "Beneath the Lily Banners", "Donnybrook" and "Republic to Empire" (although I think his main contribution is the artwork rather than the rules themselves). link From the recent blog posts, it also seems that his interests have moved on from the ECW … |

They are my rule of choice for the ECW! I love the event card.

Not sure if that was meant as argumentative or confrontational. I was not criticizing. Beta in that they are not commercially published. What might be added: the FAQ section incorporated into the rules, and the Q&A section on the "League of Augsburg" site, the rules for Highlanders in these FAQs.The musing about whether to go with "6 is always a hit" vs the current rule. I believe he mentioned something about changing this (and whether a general could hold cards) in a finished version or update of the rules. So, nothing needs to be changed, just would be nice to have it, possibly, more available for people to enjoy and the clarifications in one place. Doesn't change my high opinion of this ruleset. |

Does anyone have a QRS for this game? It seems to be the only thing lacking in the rules. |

gregoryk, I believe you were looking for a VWQ QRS, not the PDF of the rules that LTC Reinwald provided. I made up my own QRS: VWQ QRS v2 I call it a QRS Plus; I put in the extra information so I could quickly give new players an overview of the game mechanics. I also included some 'rules clarifications' (link) that I consolidated from the League of Augsburg's VWQ Forum (forum) Hope this helps John H. |
