Please excuse my ignorance, but how many folks can ride in a turtleback Humvee like this one?

picture

I know it 'seats' four, but how many can reasonably fit in?

How many can fit in an unreasonable situation?
ie You die if you get left behind?

Thank you for your help.

Depends. How much stuff do you have in it? Driver, Passenger, Two in each seat (that's 4) in the back (one or two if they are small, on the hump) and two in the turret and a bunch in the trunk if you have to. Upwards of 10-15? If you have that many you have limited gear. It would be a clown car and the loading will take time.

Sundance28 Dec 2014 2:12 p.m. PST

bc hit it. One in each seat, one in the turret. More than that would only be under emergency conditions.

Maddaz11128 Dec 2014 2:29 p.m. PST

From the original post, it is an emergency condition.

Based on overloading cars and vans in slightly less dangerous circumstances.

4 in the back, three in the front, two in the rear/trunk area (boot in UK)

Based in getting 6 rugby players in a mini (old style) some years ago. and 13 in and on a land rover (20+ years ago) that overloaded it was not fast… but faster than walking.

How many? As many as Gunny wants to put in there.

Reminded me back in 1966 I went to a school in Germany. We met some American soldiers in a village and they gave ys a ride back to the school. Two soldiers and 22 kids.

The mention of the mini. I bought a brand new auatin mini in 1975. 8 of us in to the beer store and fit a 24 of beer into it. I had worker in the tobacco harvest and one guy had a mini. We bought a tv for the strip room where we slept. The mini trunk door folded down so placed the tv there and a guy sat so a leg fit on each side of the tv into the trunk and a hand grasped in at the pop out side windows. Drive down the country gravel roads and never lost the guy or tv.

I fit 8 in a hatchback Camaro for a 45 minute drive back in high school.

In combat situations, and due to the amount of equipment, to include computer equipment, it will carry five.

The driver
The vehicle commander, in the front passenger seat
The gunner, standing in the top
and two passengers in the rear seats.

Trust me, with the equipment, personal gear, to include body armor, it's crowded.

In the configuration in your picture, it would be four, since there are only four seats…two in front and two in back.

Four as noted above – having been in a Humvee or two, they have suprisingly little room for extra passengers inside

You should see what the Brits do in an emergency…I have seen an overloaded Humvee, guys on top, the hood, hanging off each others combat webbing…12-20 guys for sure
Just enough open space for the drivers view---but I have no idea how far/long this lasts

I wonder if games should have a "desperation load". The vehicle normally holds X but if you are bugging out from a losing battle, retreating troops may double X

Gaz004529 Dec 2014 11:29 a.m. PST

Desperation/warlord militia rule, some of those technicals carry 20/30 guys!

Probably closer to triple X, but remember that at the end of Blackhawk Down only the troops too injured to walk were stuffed into Humvees. Everyone else had to jog back to base!

CeruLucifus29 Dec 2014 9:54 p.m. PST

In the planning for the Blackhawk Down operation weren't they intending to seize intelligence assets (people) and tie them up and lie them down in the back of the Hummvees to drive them to base for interrogation? 2 or 3 per vehicle trunk I think?

shrike629 Dec 2014 10:29 p.m. PST

In an armored 1151 with turret assembly, with all passengers carrying battle rattle, we were able to fit 1 driver, 1 TC, 1 Gunner +1 extra passenger, 3 passengers in the back seat, 3 seated in cramped conditions in the trunk. It was a VERY tight squeeze, as we still had lots of gear, weapons, ammo, and other stores in the vehicle. Had to drive VERY slow for the safety of the trunk passengers because the trunk was open and Baghdad roads haven't been repaired in…awhile.

If you're transporting prisoners, we were able to fit up to 3 zip-tied prisoners in the trunk with the lid closed.

Weasel30 Dec 2014 8:53 p.m. PST

Of course, such a jam packed vehicle would be an early christmas present for any ill-intentioned person with a RPD and half a drum of ammo.

Thank you all for the info!

At the 135th Anniversary Gettysburg reenactment, we fit 8 full-sized adults into a Ford Escort Wagon--and it was Standard Transmission, which meant Driver/passenger and the unlucky soul who straddled the stick/brake levers, 3 ladies in the back seat, two in hoop skirts, and 2 men in the cargo area sitting crosswise with their legs intertwined. It looked like a clown car exploding reenactors when we got out at the restaurant.

Amalric02 Jan 2015 9:55 p.m. PST

Capncarp, my first brand new car was a ford escort wagon, great car.

<< It looked like a clown car exploding reenactors when we got out at the restaurant.>>

That must have been a fun site to see.

Depends… if the opening theme of, "The Walking Dead" is playing in the background, then 2, maybe 3 people total, but a near limitless number of walkers. If the "Benny Hill" theme is playing then upwards of 30, but some of them have to be topless ladies and/or fellas in outrageous costumes.

EJNashIII04 Jan 2015 12:03 p.m. PST

lol! Tehakla. Thanks for a good laugh.
