Trying to get back to a stalled project and looking for 15mm US & Soviet infantry 1970s era troops.

The project is fairly small, so I won't need many figures to start, so looking for recommendations – never done much with modern periods, so no idea who makes what. I'll eventually need some West Germans and some appropriate US & Soviet tanks as well.

The project is basically a miniatures conversion of the SPI / Victory Point Games title Strike Force One. The idea is to use the game as a very basic introduction to miniature games for Middle/High School kids. A small and portable game.

If anyone happens to have some spare figures (painted or unpainted) they want to sell I'd be interested – looking for 6 each US and Soviet for starters.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I'd recommend QRF or Khurasan minis for the tanks. Khurasan makes very nice T55s and T62s, as does QRF.

You might be able to scrounge minis from Battlefront, United Arab Republic troops and tanks, for the Soviets. (You will have to forgive me, 1970s "Cold War Gone Hot" is not an area of study, so I'm spitballing ideas) Advantage there is that you might be able to find stuff in-store, save on shipping. "Downside," such as it is, is that it's an entire platoon at once.

For the Americans, I'm not sure where to get the troops. Maybe US Marines for Vietnam (since the Marines were better disciplined about long sleeves and wearing their flak vests)?

QRF has "old" West Germans with G3 rifles and old style helmets, some pretty good Soviets and I'm sure they do Americans as well.

Khurasan makes 70's Russians in 15mm. I have a ton of them. They are the best figures I've ever seen in any scale. Khurasan also makes a wide variety of vehicles for the period. And the price and shipping are right as they are in the US.
For 70's Americans just about any Vietnam will do.

I'm trying to do this period as well. The closest Americans I have found are Battlefront's Vietnam Airmobile rifle platoon. Their uniform is much closer to the OG-107 that was worn in Europe than the tropical uniforms of regular Vietnam miniatures.
