I followed a link to fanaticus and found that Thistle & Rose miniatures will return to production in the New Year.

They were great figures, "bags of character", but I wonder how they will do today.

Mako1127 Dec 2014 11:58 p.m. PST

I'm not sure, but do recall they looked very nice.

A bit short perhaps, so probably matching up better with the old Essex range, than more recent, taller sculpts.

Glad to hear they will be available again.

I have a small selection of Thistle & Rose figures in my Medieval armies … they are slightly taller than Essex figures but fit in very nicely.

They are my favourite figures -- ever. I was about to put in a large order for a Saxon army -- I will now hold off!!!!!!

Any links to details about how, what, when, where, and why?

Fantastic news. I was just thinking about this great line of figures yesterday and wishing they were still available.

Khazarmac28 Dec 2014 8:01 a.m. PST

Can you tell us who will sell them, and from where (eg UK, USA, etc).

Thanks

Interesting. I had always heard that they were smaller and closer to "true 15mm" size. Now I have to check them out though I need more miniatures like I need another hole in my head! grin

I have a bunch of them and I think that they are great figures. They are slightly larger than Essex and I think that they hold up fine against newer figure lines.

They look very rough in the lead but paint up nicely, and are easy to paint. Beefy, burly, barbaric looking warbands. They will still hold up, easily. This is splendid news.

'I had always heard that they were smaller and closer to "true 15mm" size.'

If old line Donnington ancients lifted weights and drank beer, they would look like Thistle and Rose. T&R are more detailed.

Glad to hear that you all like them. We love the look and feel of them too which is why we decided to bring them back to market.

Indeed, my partner Brian Caskey and I are planning to start selling Thistle and Rose miniatures in the first quarter of 2015. We purchased the line from Jamie Fish earlier this year and have been working away at organizing things and learning how to cast the figures.

Both Brian and I are interested in bringing new players into the hobby and so we are going to start with DBA based armies (we are both newbies to DBA) and SAGA/Lion Rampant skirmish armies.

This is all new to us, so please be patient. We will be making announcements as we make progress both here on TMP and on the Fanaticus forums.

I've seen some of the newly cast models.

I was surprised to see how much detail the figures hold for their size. Very sharp models!

They were the first pre-gunpowder figures I ever bought! Waaaay back when…

I have a T&R Medieval Irish army unpainted in my basement. I am looking forward to be able to add an enemy army for DBA 3.0 and Basic Impetus.

Very nice indeed! One of the first medieval armies I painted was a T&R Scottish army for Tactica with 36 figure schiltrons. They made a very nice Robert the Bruce figure.

Mako1129 Dec 2014 3:54 p.m. PST

Glad to hear about their size as well, since I've only seen them in magazines, so didn't know how they match up with the Essex figs.

Thanks for the info.

Battle Cry Bill30 Dec 2014 3:03 p.m. PST

DeRuyter,

We would love to get pictures of any T&R armies. I am sure those 36 figure schiltrons look awesome!
