It's old, I know, but I saw it for the first time. What's the opinion of the "specialists"? YouTube link Amicalement Armand |

Well, apart from the producers being unaware that the dreaded 'Black Watch' was a Highland regiment, and using images of re-enactors dressed as Foot Guards in immaculate regulation uniforms to depict the 42nd- I always understood that the battle of Monmouth was an attempt by Washington to catch the British on the wrong foot as they withdrew from Philadelphia, specifically by attacking the baggage train. This manouevre was not successfull. The British turned, counter-attacked and were held off by the American artillery. The day ended with a stand-off, troops on both sides exhausted after fighting in intense heat. The British took advantage of nightfall and the cooler temperatures to pull back and continue their march to the Jersey shore unobstructed. How was that a victory for Washington, except as depicted by propagandists? And as for the bit about toe-to-toe bayonet fighting…. really? Shallow, inaccurate and not very objective.
Verdict: Poor stuff |
